Tire thieves out in force
From CBS 2:
Several vehicles have been stripped of their wheels in Queens, and the cars all have something in common, police say.
Police say at least 16 cases of stolen tires and rims have been reported in neighborhoods like Astoria, Jackson Heights and East Elmhurst since February.
AAA’s Robert Sinclair told Castro this isn’t surprising. He said the fact thieves are targeting newer Honda Accords, Acura MDXs and Toyota Camrys can be attributed to how popular the cars are on the showroom floor.
Police sources told CBS2 the suspects are likely part of an organized crime ring that works in teams. Suspects in a scout car will pick out a target, then a van is called in with the tools to do the job.
A car can be stripped in a matter of minutes. The parts are then resold. Things like wheel locks do help, but they aren’t always foolproof.

Car thieves and tire thieves should be handled like horse thieves in the old days. Taken out back and shot. Screwing with someones car is screwing with someone's livelihood.
Third world population, third world theft
That happened to my next door neighbor in Forest Hills, South of Metro. I looked out the window one morning and wondered, Why is their car up on blocks? It was nice of the thieves to put it on blocks I guess.
“ It was nice of the thieves to put it on blocks I guess.”
Nothing nice about it. I believe the jack they use would get stuck if they didn’t use blocks to prop up the car.
NYPD asleep at the switch...
They know there are less cops on the midnight tour. Once the tree bloom it’s even easier cause they block the streetlights.. and folks are too cheap to leave a light on in front or the side of their homes. With modern battery powered tools, it only takes a few minutes. You ain’t seen nuthin yet......
Buy cars with hub caps if you are parking them on the streets !
will the peep shows be coming back to times square now? seeing how we are back to the 80s and 90s style of tire and rim theft it's not too far off
