Flushing Meadows has most park crime

From PIX11:

The head of New York City Park Advocates is concerned about what he sees as an alarming increase in crimes in New York City Parks for the first half of 2016 compared to the same six-month period of 2015.

"I am not surprised," Geoffrey Croft, president of NYC Park Advocates, told PIX11 News. "I have been calling for an increase in police presence."

Specifically, according to NYPD CompStat numbers, there was a 36 percent increase in the number of robberies, 156 in all. Also a 24 percent upward trend in assaults, 94 of them, and a whopping 67 percent increase in grand larcenies, total of 194.

"That's almost a 49 percent increase," Croft said. "That's astronomical and alarming."

Central Park isn't the leader in crimes, according to the statistics.

That dubious distinction goes to Flushing Meadows Corona Park, which has seen 25 grand larcenies, four robberies and a felony assault in the first half of this year.

When was the last time anyone saw a cop patrolling their local park? And where are the Parks Enforcement Patrol officers from Parks Dept? Sleeping in their patrol cars? Or too busy on their cell phones?

I'm surprised that last weeks murder and attempted dumping of a body into Willow lake wasn't mentioned on this site.

My car had its rearview mirrors stolen as I went into the ice skating arena for a half hour. You would think that city would be smart enough to put up more cameras around these parks and their parking lots but I guess thats too much to ask. That part of flushing just gets worst and worst by the year, I guess that is what happens when the illegals take over.

If this administration has it's way a large section on FMCP will be developed into retail space and apartments of which the poor will not be housed. I will also wager that if a hotel gets built there it will never ever see a homeless person in residence. The politically connected developer Wilpon's and their ilk will never allow it.

Pay to play, pay to play.

Ain't diversity wonderful?

The law enforcement officers need to give more tickets to those found smoking cigarettes in the park...

But, murders and rapes are down. I'm not sure why that was omitted from this post.

How about those automatic guns from the movie "Aliens" (only in the Director's Cut). Set them up in the Park with cameras, and whenever someone shady does something illegal, blow their illegal asses away.

I have an idea lets build another park on an abandoned rail line and call it the Queensway. It'll be just as safe and upkept as all the other parks in Queens

It is a shame that people cannot use a public park with out this crap happening.
We need more police presence in the parks. Children who need to be in school should be. If they are found in the park during school hours they should be taken back to school.
More cameras should be around to catch these crimes of opportunity.

That guy killed his Mom at home. The only crime he committed in the park was littering. I am surprised he was arrested. That, when enforced, is usually a desk appearance ticket.

I was told FMCP has the highest homeless concentration living in there compared to any of the park in NYC. They only clean it up once a year when the US Open rolls around.

Is it really that much of a comparison? And I am talking about PIX here with this extremely brief report. Rapes down from 8 to 6 Murders 3 To 1, what the fuck are they bringing those irrelevant stats up for, and how could those miniscule numbers compare. The real story was about the frequency of muggings in the parks and the collective rise in crimes that are committed more regularly, combined 40% rise. I guess those murder and rape stats look impressive because the percentages are higher. But why would PIX report that? And why were all the people on the street interviewed mostly positive? PIX couldn't balance it with people that are concerned, or even informed?

Croft has been wrote about this on his blog months ago, with a nice touch of sardonic snipes at the cherry picking and sugar coating of selective crime stats from Mayor Big Slow, shitty council members and Bratton's NYPD. He also broke the story, which for some reason considering the individuals involved and the race of the victim who was violated, about a working poor parks worker ordered to clean feces off a city approved artist's european shoe. The network has done a disservice to him, and to the true citizens of this city. Can't say much to those sheeple on that segment who will remain oblivious.

Like that woman who feels safe around central park. In the last few weeks, a guy got attacked playing pokemon on 3 phones (deserved it, sue me), a few elderly people got attacked for a little amount of money, a guy got knocked off his citibike and a few women got attacked and molested during the daytime,

The Parks Department are apparently run by elitist idiots too, just like all the other divisions of this local govt run by this corrupt, cowardly mayor. The only time you will see parks police are only at "events", which seem to be happening every weekend, sometimes 5 or 6 on the same day. Gary W brings up the unrealistic absurdity that is the Queensway and the potential of more criminal activity. The funny thing is that the locals, CB's and the council members and assembly people are against it, but we know how the exalted elected leaders in Albany and Park Row feel, just like Manifest Hillary, that the needy little people don't know what they are talking about and they know more what's best. And how these things get approved in the dead of night, behind the people's back.

Unofficially speaking for the PIX news team, shut up and be happy everybody. And let's be careful out there.

Really, really careful.

What do these assholes expect when you have the sick mayor and president ringing the COME AND GET IT bell from every tower. A good 1/2 of those desperados camping in the brush by Corona park don't belong in this country !!
They also believe what's yours & mine was stolen from Mexico and belongs to them for the taking. They all have knives and shanks, you now need a Kevlar gloves, vest and gun to bikeride in that park.
The cops look away and don't do shit all the benches smell like a dirty toilet !!

Ask the cops they know where the crime is coming from but their hands are tied and have targets painted on their backs too. Wake up people you are fools voting for the same electurds and the same failing polices year after year !

And the same people who brought you this disgusting mess, are the same ones to claim they alone have the answers to these ills.

And the useful idiots will reelect them...
