QB bridge toll lowered in latest Move NY bill

From Sunnyside Post:

A version of the controversial “Move NY” transportation plan, which would redistribute tolls among the City’s bridges and crossings, was introduced in the State Senate earlier this month with a slightly lower Queensboro Bridge fare than has been previously proposed.

“Move NY” has been a subject of debate since it was formally proposed by a coalition of transportation advocates in February 2015; it was introduced as a bill in the State Assembly by Member Robert Rodriguez of Manhattan this past March.

Rodriguez’s bill would add a toll to East River bridges, including the Queensboro, of $5.54 with E-ZPass or $8 without. These numbers are matched with the tolls at the Queens-Midtown Tunnel and Hugh L. Carey (Brooklyn-Battery) Tunnel. In contrast the Senate legislation, introduced by State Sen. Andrew Lanza of Staten Island, proposes a $5 Queensboro toll with E-ZPass.

The plan also involves discounting other major bridges that are currently tolled, including the Triborough/RFK, by up to 48 percent.

Advocates of the Move NY plan believe that this “toll swap” would be more fair for drivers on the Triborough/RFK and other tolled bridges, who have fewer transportation alternatives. Meanwhile, they charge that it would de-incentivize the Queensboro Bridge, therefore reducing congestion and pollution around Queens Plaza.

The primary promised benefit of the overall plan is that millions of new dollars in revenue would be created, which would then go towards improving New York City’s public transit and transportation infrastructure.

If anyone falls for this you are a complete moron. They will raise it right back up a few months after it is implemented.

Isn't traffic slow enough already?

Just what we need. Another guy with his hand in our pocket.

Add an amendment that the tolls can only be used for upkeep. It would never pass. The politicians have this income stream already spent and it hasn't even passed!

This is a toll levied on non-developers and current residents to fund development projects for people that do not live here in yet to be built apartments.

Let the developers foot not only the bill for their projects, but subsidize the rest of us for the inconvenience from their get rich quick schemes that places the yoke of infrastructure costs on everyone else.

This is so ridiculous. I feel like a prisoner in my own city. Do these idiots who support this really think that the government will lower fares on the other tolls if they build this one? What idiots live in this city? Have we learned nothing from the mta? Once fares go up, fares do not come down and only remain the same for maybe a couple of years before they go up again. Are these idiot supporters for this "move ny" campaign smoking crack or something?

the bottom line as usual more revenue for gov't less money for the people what else is new?

How generous of them, lowering a toll on something that's currently free and should stay free.

That organization's irrational plans for the city, the flow of traffic and mostly for the benefit of the gentrification industrial complex should change their name to MOVEfromNY. Because this is the message they are sending.

These developers, hedge funders and vulture venture capital firms need to stop sucking the funding and souls of these boroughs and better start contributing more if not all if they are going to put these fascist lobbyists fronting as non-profit safety concern groups to come up with these unfeasible and territorial plans and taxing fees.

they are like Jane Jacobs on angel dust and crystal meth.

So, what specific set of proposals are there to reduce traffic and improve/augment mass transit? Like it or not NYC population is increasing and burdening roads, infrastructure, transit. Any new ideas out there in Queens Crap land? And, if your only idea is to leave...please proceed.

This will overburden an already inadequate transit system..

THAT IS EASY TO CHANGE. LETS PUT PEOPLE IN OFFICE WHO PLEDGE TO DO THIS.

The East River is a moat that Manhattanites must cross to come to our "farmers' markets".
