Trib notices that Flushing is dirty

From the Queens Tribune:

...as the area’s population has surged and business is booming, infrastructure and city services have hardly kept pace with the growth. The MTA’s 7 Train, which terminates in Flushing, is severely overcrowded. Traffic is constant and parking is scarce, many roads are in poor condition and the sidewalks are hardly wide enough for the pedestrians that live, work and play in the area.

And the problems aren’t just transportation related. Schools in the area’s District 25 are among the most overcrowded. The sewer system regularly exceeds its maximum capacity and dumps untreated waste water into Flushing Bay.

Flushing residents will say that their quality of life does suffer as a result of some of these problems. And one of the most unsightly of them may be commercial garbage from some of the many restaurants overflowing into the street ahead of pick up time.

One of the worst areas is on 40th Road and Main Street, near the entrance of the Long Island Rail Road station. The high density of restaurants on the narrow street allowed the Queens Tribune, on two occasions, to photograph garbage or recyclables in that area spilling over into from the sidewalk into the street, blocking parking spots.

Elected officials and community leaders have taken note of the issue.

“It’s on our radar every day,” Scott Sieber, a spokesperson for Councilman Peter Koo, said. Sieber said he personally was once driving behind a trash compactor truck that picked up commercial waste when one of the bags popped and juice exploded over his car and several others.

“If the juice leaks out it collects on the potholes in the street,” he added.

They also noticed the overcrowding! Will wonders never cease?

CODE for We are not going to do jack shit. I mean what the fuck kind of answer is that from elected officials, Oh, wait they only speak the language of BULLSHIT.

It's called "illegal housing". And the people living there now are filthy.

Anonymous said...

If only nyc believed in deporting.

Peter Koo is most concerned with increasing people for the businesses of Flushing. He is also most concerned with complaining that not enough police officers speak mandarin. He needs to educate his constituents in the language, laws and customs of the United States.

He must also get a garbage bag and start cleaning up the dirty streets of Flushing!

Well, bravo for the Trib!
No shit, Sherlock. I have been sending in pix of filthy streets to Queens Crap for years depicting just that.
The feeble explaination that business is booming being the cause of the stinking garbage is no excuse for the lazy unsanitary behavior of the business owners. Start fining these slobs severely and you'll see filthy Flushing cleaned up fast.
You have multiple do good groups claiming to be improving Flushing....the Flushing BID, the Flushing Chamber of Commerce, etc.
Pardon my French but WTF is going on? Where are the sanitation police to fine these sloppy bums?
Do we dare admit to the fact that "vibrant, bustling" Flushing looks like a dump and is a fragrant as a cesspool?
Wait until August and all that garbage juice cooks up into a nauseating soup.
Where the f--k is Peter Koo? Somebody please wake up that do nothing councilman into action.
Maybe he doesn't care. Doesn't he live in Port Washington as some have said?

Do not worry, John Choe had a nice mural painted at the foot of the westbound LIRR station stairs. Isn't that nice.
What did that cost? John Choe is the executive director of One Flushing and the chamber of commerce. Two salaries for doing what else?

Dirty politics make for dirty streets. How poetic!
The Chinese don't mind. They're used to unsanitary living. Unfortunately the rest of the civilized world is not.
Clean up your act.
If you are going to rate the Asian races according to cleanliness levels...
Spotless Japanese, clean Koreans, unsanitary Chinese.

Anonymous said...

Yeah, and crooked Peter Koo complains about the MTA not cleaning up the Main Street LIRR station. Why should they? His own people would make it filthy in one hour. If you are a slob, learn to live with your own dirt. Pigs are happy in a pen.

All of the Asiain politicians that represent the downtown Flushing area DO NOT live there. Even Tubby Stavisky lives in Beechurst, far away from the filth and stench, except for the stench of corruption that travels with her wherever she goes. Phew!

Anonymous said...

Instead of holding SOUP events at the Quaker Meeting House, perhaps John Choe should be leading a Flushing clean up.

Anonymous said...

Leave the filth alone. It's a tourist attraction.

Anonymous said...

Well,I guess Flu Shing's "summer soup" season is starting early this year. All the more reason to avoid a trip there.

Jerry Rotondi said...

Everytime I tell somebody that I live in Flushing, I have to explain that it's two miles east of the filthy downtown.
I'm getting tired of having to apologize for living in Flushing.
Solution? I'm dropping Flushing from my snail mail return address and adopting Broadway, N.Y. 11358 instead.
People asume that all of Flushing is a sewage treatment location.
Hell, now I'm going to catch hell for my frankness.
Well, bring it on! I speak the truth and many agree with me.
To show that I am not just a lazy critic, I worked on a clean up crew at least three times many years ago.
Julia Harrison sponsored Flushing beautification days where everybody volunteered. I did my part.
Now all of you should do yours.

Falasheng dirty and overcrowded? Can't be! Must have happened overnight!

The article should mention the politicians by name who represent the area and did jack shit so far to improve the area. For decades.

"The MTA’s 7 Train, which terminates in Flushing, is severely overcrowded."

Understatement of the year!

deportations will help with the issue.

Jackson Heights Johnny said...

I know I've written this before, but I have to say it again: as a lifelong resident of Jackson Heights, I remember (very fondly) going shopping in Flushing with mom when I was a child. She loved the department stores on Roosevelt Avenue, but did not hesitate to frequent the "mom & pop" stores that lined both sides of Main Street.

There NEVER was this type of garbage on the sidewalks, there were always parking spots available, and people walking on the sidewalks had plenty of room.

God only knows how much raw sewage get dumped into the water!

Flushing has become a disgusting, filthy, and smelly third-world (or worse) neighborhood....

My deepest sympathies to old folks like me who still live there because they can't afford to move anywhere else.

Poor mom, and her Gertz Department Store shopping bag must be spinning in her grave!

Add a trail of filth from aircraft emissions due to our new, permanent, NextGen flight route.

Anonymous said...

Solution? Keep building all those HUGE apartment buildings and smaller brick shithouses!!! Who needs one family homes anyhow?

Anonymous said...

Main Street in flushing is disgusting!! It never looked like that when I was a kid. I hate walking in that area now that it has become little asia...

Anonymous said...

"...SOUP events at the Quaker Meeting House, perhaps John Choe..."

Choe and his developer buddies are hoping that a errant soup event flame turns the Quaker Meeting House into ash so they can build another disgusting high rise.
History means nothing to them.

Anonymous said...

FYI...John Choe is a Quaker.

Anonymous said...

The Quaker meeting house has, thank God, a state of the art fire suppression and security system. It is on a par with the Statue of Liberty....a national historic landmark. It won't be compromised for commercial use. Choe is well aware of that I suspect.

Tubby Moby Stavisky is always concerned about offending her Asian voters. She will probably lose the next election anyway no matter how low she stoops to kiss their asses for votes. Ron Kim is another clueless action less fool. Then there Grace Meng who replaced crooked Ackerman...whose father was convicted of carrying an $80,000 cash bribe in a fruit basket by the FBI. In order to buy a judge for a friend.
What pedigree our elected slobs sport. Then there is community bored seven. A den of bobble heads and thieves. Follow the buck Chuck Apelian is their gang leader. Kelty bellows but is just a figurehead. And WHY is Marilyn Bitterman still employed for $90,000 a year for doing what? Dump that board!

Anonymous said...

YEAH, CLEAN UP THAT COMMUNITY BOARD AND YOU WILL SEE FLUSHING CLEANER.SWEEP ITS CROOKED POLS DOWN A MANHOLE WITH THE TEST PF THE ROTTING VEGGIES THAT THE CHINESE DUMP AT NIGHT!

Anonymous said...

Filthy streets, filthy politicians, dirty community board.
How can you win? Follow the money to China. Everybody is bought and paid for by laundered Yuan!
Calling the FBI. Preet....how about scoping CB7?
It's a gold mine of corruption. Question Warren Schteiber. He's a soft boiled scardie cat who if squeezed right, will give up some crooks parking their asses at CB7.

Oh...the prophecy of Flushing's blight has finally come true. But it is the fishy smelling garbage not the phony business exits in the 1970s that is the real truth. Let's encourage tourism. Come an see how a colony of coolies lives. Get on down and go slumming.
Contact Peter Koo's office to provide tour guides.

Anonymous said...

How can Choe be a Quaker if he is a North Korean sympathizer. LOL! Quaker Communist?
Remember his connection to Nodutol? Relax. He's just a lame brain idealist who paints murals and holds yoga classes.

Anonymous said...

Lay off of John Choe. He's a good guy trying to accomplish the impossible. At least he's trying instead of trashing.

Anonymous said...

And he collects 2 paychecks for running 2 lame non profits.

Anonymous said...

Lay off of John Choe. He's a good guy trying to accomplish the impossible. At least he's trying instead of trashing.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Bwahahahahahahaha! The only thing Choe is trying is our patience!!!

Anonymous said...

John Choe found a nice historic place to rest his ass...the Quaker meeting house.
Maybe he will use it as a spring board to further his ambitions...whatever they are.
Let's unite north and South Korea. Primary discussions will be hosted by the Quakers.
Peaceniks unite!
Maybe dictator Kim can come for a sleep over.

Anonymous said...

Right about those two lame groups that Choe heads ...One Flushing and the chamber.
They ain't doing shit but providing pay checks.
Is Flooshing any cleaner due to the efforts of these two groups?
Gag! I just took a full breath of Flooshing air. Bring me a barf bag, quick?

Anonymous said...

How many groups exist to make Flushing a better place?
Have they done anything?
The Flushing Chinese Business Association is in business to do nothing but divide the territory among the tongs and collect benevolent dues. Those fat red envelopes that are doled out must include a few politicians.
How much is Tubby Stavisky's take?
Less than the Chinese pols because.she is a Jewess and will be gone soon. Dump the round eyes!
Buy your pols. They are cheaper by the dozen.
Preet Baharra could make some hay stack with Flooshing's crooked politicians.
C'mon Preet, visit Flushing!

Anonymous said...

John Choe visited North Korea and a couple of American Koreans were just arrested there.
Is he a wistful dreamer or a quiet plotter?

Anonymous said...

Nobody takes Choe seriously except himself. The Chinese, who control Flushing's filthy streets, see him as a mere pip squeak.
After all, he is not one of them. Asians are most bigoted when they hate each other. But they all have one thing in common regarding their bigotry. They all dislike Blacks and other darker hued folks.
The Olde Tyme pols and business leaders just love this because they also did not want Flushing to become Black or Latino.
That is why they all look the other way when it comes to Asian law breaking. Better than "colored" people taking over Flushing.

Anonymous said...

"Add a trail of filth from aircraft emissions due to our new, permanent, NextGen flight route."
Thank you. Next Gen must be stopped. All over the country lawsuits are working their way up the courts to repeal the FAA "Fast Tracked" fiasco call Next/Gen !

Anonymous said...

Maybe Choe should look for a real job.
Even John Liu bounced him when Liu became NYC comptroller.
Choe was once Liu's chief of staff when Liu, Tommy Hiang's cousin, was a councilman.
He briefly went to work for the comptroller but when his pro North Korea stance became too hot, Liu suggested he resign, we guess.
Technically he was fired!

Anonymous said...

Maybe somebody should FOIL One Flushing's books.
Let's look at all of those Asian ledgers. Not for profits got to be making a profit for somebody.
They are not improving Flushing.
Calling Preet Baharra. Not for profit money laundering, diverted to political campaigns, would be of interest to the federal government's probe into political corruption.
Flushing is one of its epicenters for sure.
Scope the old Stavisky North Flushing Senior Center. That ought to reveal a mother load.

Anonymous said...

Too many restaurants, food services, markets generating filth?
Then some should go out of business. After all, that is the law of economics. If you cannot pay for efficient private trash haulage then you should not be in business!
The Chinese businesses used to dump some of their crap down manholes late at night. I guess that's being watched so the shit piles up on the streets now.
How in the hell do you expect people to eat at a restaurant when they have to walk past or step over stinky garbage?
Yeah, let's make the downtown hub an epicurean destination of choice.
You gotta be kidding! Only uncivilized diners, used to the stench, would brave one of those joints.

Anonymous said...

Nothing is on Peter Koo's radar except campaign contributions from Chinese American businesses. That is why no action will ever be taken regarding this mounting filth. He was quoted as saying that he was tired of hearing about overcrowding and garbage. Fine...he doesn't have to walk past that in Port Washington where he clandestinely lives.
Got that Scott? Got that Councilman Cuckoo?

Anonymous said...

The Flushing Quakers appear to have been duped by Choe, a North Korean Communist sympathizer
The Quaker peace lovers swallowed Choe's peace initiatives and now he might be using them as a springboard to gain respectability.
Using this centuries old peace loving religious organization could give Choe more credibility. The dwindling aging Quakers seem blind to Choe's ambitions. Is he co clerk of the organization? Beware. He may not be the quiet naive person that he projects publicly.

Anonymous said...

Choe is a Nodudtol commie. He is inserting himself anywhere he can to foster his goals.
He found himself a quiet home in the middle of a bunch of addled individuals.
A nice seventeenth century historic landmark is some place to provide cover for a North Korean sympathizer.
Hmmm...maybe he'll take a run at a city council seat again.
And that dumb mural his group commissioned was supposed to solve Flushing's filth problem? That is "One Flushing" big mistake. Besides, Myra Baird Herce, when she was chief of the defunct "Downtown Flushing Development Corporation", had a similar $10,000 mural painted for Lippmann Arcade.
WTF did that accomplish? John Choe a young man wih old ideas. Go back to university where you can be the big man on campus.

Anonymous said...

If any of the sleepy Flushing Friends are reading this...BEWARE CHOE!
He could adversely affect you in the future. Do not let him turn a historic national landmark into a staging area for uniting the two Koreas.
Read his published comments about "American imperialism".
You are being taken for a ride! World peace is an admirable goal but a hidden agenda is another matter.
Does comrade Choe have a hidden agenda or is he just a simplistic, naive true believer...innocent in his motives?
Time will tell. In the meantime keep a watchful eye on this cool ambitious opportunist.
He worked for shady John Liu. John Liu is related to the infamous criminal developer Tommy Huang through Tommy's wife Alice Liu Huang.
