Fund to keep businesses here

From the Times Ledger:

The mayor’s office hopes to entice new industrial development to the city with a $150 million fund for nonprofit and for-profit developers in an attempt to stem the gradual loss of industrial real estate and jobs throughout New York.

Two representatives from the city Economic Development Corporation presented details of the newly established Industrial Developer Fund to the Queens Borough Board Tuesday night at Borough Hall. Borough President Melinda Katz, who heads the board, attended the meeting along with the heads of each community board.

The fund will be a combination of $60 million in taxpayer money with an additional $90 million from private financing. The city wants to encourage the development or renovation of 400,000 square feet of industrial real estate, and the EDC contends the developments will result in as many as 1,200 new industrial jobs by the close of the decade.

EDC Senior Vice President Jeffrey Lee said the fund would be a positive fit for developers who could ensure that opportunities for a living wage job with potential for advancement would be available to members of local communities, including those without a formal education.

How about not rezoning industrial areas for condos?

1200 industrial jobs by the end of the decade? By that time, we will have 50000 new people in this city so I don't think 1200 new industrial jobs can even compare to our enormous growth population.

These jobs aren't going to go to actual americans anyway. They will just go to illegals or foreigners.

Where are these work sites gonna go? I thought we were all about housing, housing, housing!

True, the jobs will be given as plum overseas extras to foreign lobbiests.

The fact of the matter is NYC, for the first time since it was little more than a money losing factious 17th century pirate port that neither the English or Dutch really wanted, has lost economic diversity and now faces the same fate as Late Empire Rome.

We used to be a crossroads of people and things - Port Newark, airlines and the interstate took care of that.

We use to be a manufacturing center and the Garment Center - 3rd world wages took care of that.

We use to be Wall Street and Madison Ave - and the internet and overseas back office took care of that.

Now we are the center of arts and ideas - and real estate and economic policy is driving out if not extinguishing that class.

So now we are locked in a vicious circle of needing rather than creating taxes:

All we can now do is bring in the needy and the deviant - the gist for all that elaborate Democratic Machine Nomenklatura - who create welfare state bread, services, and attention to the Gotham horde, who in turn, complete the circle by voting for the Democratic Machine.

I guess the big question happens when the Vandals cut off our shipments of grain (or taxes).

Get rid of EDC. It simply funnels money to the favored few, and never has to follow up on project. That money is our tax dollars: this needs to stop!

My neighborhood was blessed with an Empire Development Zone (State program) - we have crap zoning that places M1-3 (heavy industrial) across the street from residential, in an area with 30' wide streets. Industrial tenants weren't moving in, so the EDC/IDA sweetened the pot with various incentive programs, crowing about jobs and wonderful local impact... A business came over from Brooklyn (no net gain to the City)
with no new jobs, and now non-stop truck traffic which is destroying streets as well as residents' sidewalks and fences: there's no room on the street for maneuvering the trucks in to the bays.

Get rid of EDC.

There is all this hype about tech firms establishing themselves here in the city but there is no effort by this administration to attract manufacturers of new technologies. Everything is some small startup that has some website offering some mundane service but no one actually build anything.

No, for the first time in 100 years, they are MIXING housing and manufacturing in the same building - if not the same apartment.

That is right. You can now import the ENTIRE family from West Bengal and dye the fabric to be sold to hipshits in the same tubs you use for making dhal puri that you can serve to the same hipshits!

So now you can use the first floor as a Hipshit Shirt-Soup Shoppe!

I can see photos of food all over the internet, can't you?

cool

Foot note: Flushing is already bought and paid for. Bayside, Whitestone are next!

You said what we were all thinking. Do you want industry, or do you want housing, because with limited land, you cant have both.

In the end, its just more wasted taxpayer money.

They are not next it has already started !

and the money will go to illegals.

where are the jobs for American citizens? It's maddening to be looking for work and see bilingual preferred.

and if you say anything you are lambasted as being incompetent. just shut up and accept the invasion. And they wonder why people are voting for Trump? but even so, who's working at his hotels and on his campaign?

can't a politician start Jobs for Americans First?

Everyone can see through your paper thin lies.
