They've got the 7 train blues

From the Daily News:

Fed up No. 7 train passengers on Tuesday called on the MTA to give Queens commuters a smoother ride.

At a rally underneath the elevated 40th St.-Lowery St. station, riders and Councilman Jimmy Van Bramer (D-Queens) called on the agency to give the line a top-to-bottom review — the kind of audit that led to improved service on the F, G and L lines in the past.

"What we have witnessed nearly every single day are significant delays, significant problems with trains bypassing stations, crowded platforms," Van Bramer said.

No. 7 train riders have been waiting for better service for years as crews repair equipment and install a modern signal system that would let the MTA squeeze more trains on the tracks — work that requires weekend disruptions.

In the meantime, the day-to-day commuting headaches continue to pile up, causing crowding along the busy line.

The Queens pols are such phonies - these guys keep building stealing the tax payers money to pay for the projects of their developer funders, then do these little photo ops to assure the public that they care.

And you know what? The Queens public buys it.

Maybe if they started deporting these illegals then maybe that train wouldn't be so crowded. They hold doors opened, the illegals don't understand when the conductor says "stand clear of the closing doors". So of course we were bound to have major delays on this train because of the overcrowding and its only getting worst.

City Hall and Council (despite Jimmy's little staged stunt) have more illuminating concerns for light rail slug trolleys to spur gross land value speculation and hyper-development than to be concerned for the average commuter's gripes about the worst fucking transit system of the universe.

And everyone has bad etiquette and obnoxious habits on the train. Stupid hipshits and yuppie scum are always blocking the doors and refuse to move to the middle of the train, don't limit it to stubborn immigrants. And stupidphone habits has made it worse, which will only exarcebate with the installation of more wifi than there is now. Which will increase more confrontations and robberies because of oblivious behavior.

Councilman Jimmy has been on the payroll of many developers.
Now he's found religion and feigns being a champion of the people.
He just wants their votes, the two faced low life!
Ask him what he did with the $10,500 campaign contribution he got from the Wolkoff family'
Jerry Wolkoff owns the former 5 Pointz site, upon which two fourty story buildings have been set to rise.
Jimmy even voted for the zoning variance to permit this.
He refused to recuse himself from voting even after taking money from the Wolkoffs.

I have no problem with illegals and a big problem with those that let them in.

so you deport? tomorrow their space would be taken up by another and that will happen until you get to the root of the problem.

The # 7 line was conceptualized wrong from the start. It makes no sense to me that there are only 3 tracks when there should be 4 to deal with express service to and from the city simultaneously. The express service is okay but the minute a local train is not moving because of signal problems or a sick passenger, everything is at a standstill while they troubleshoot the problem and try to maintain separation between trains. If you had a fourth track you could easily divert the trains to the extra track and not affect traffic flow.

Every time the Manhattan bound express gets to 33rd Rawson St, it has to wait for the next train ahead of it to clear the local track so that the express can then continue onto Queensboro Plaza.After Queens Plaza there is no more express service. That defeats the whole purpose of having express service in the first place if it doesn't go all the way.

While I spend so much time waiting for the 7 train at Queensboro Plaza, I look around at all the construction in that area and wonder how in the world the city thinks they're going to be able to transport all the residents of these buildings into Manhattan to get to work. Poor, poor planning.

At the time that the #7 train was conceptualized, Queens was empty property.
The Sunnyside #7 viaduct ran through empty land. Queens borough Magazine from the 1920s pictured this.
And if the system sported a four track system, you would have seen twelve story buildings along Queens Blvd. Sunnyside instead of six.

I do! If a sucker is born every minute then we must speed up the rate for trust funded hipsters. LIC tower people have all the density of Manhattan with none of its convenient transportation. Enjoy your good life, folks.

It is the longest train yard in NYC.
How many people can it move an hour and get them to work on time without having a nervous breakdown, Councilman Van Bramer?

Even if the 7 line was conceptualized when most of Queens was a farm, the engineers, city planners at the time should have anticipated the growth would from migration of people from other parts of Queens to areas close in proximity to the subway lines. it's not like they didn't do population studies back then. More people live in this borough than any other, if you account for the number of undocumented residents and Long Islanders who get off at Flushing or Woodside to save money on their commute. It's a lot of fucking people...

You do not know your history RE transportation.
Do you know that as late as the 1930s that there were still U paved roads in Queens?
Stop making general statements without proper research.
Parts of Queens was still farmland.

I've been saying that for yrs! I agree 100%. #7 train should have, or add, a 4th track. So you can have Express trains in both direction and if there's a problem on 1 track you still have the other track to use in same direction. It can still be added, either above or along side thru use of Eminant Domain, if necesary. But above, having 2 levels makes most sense.

You cannot have a 4th track added to the #7. The superstructure CANNOT handle the added weight of moving trains.
Go back to your drawing board. It might be a good idea, but it would require millions and some shut downs of the line.
