Community board quotas soon?

From Gotham Gazette:

In an effort to ensure that local community boards are representative of their neighborhoods, New York City Council Member Ritchie Torres will introduce a bill on Wednesday requiring the city to publish demographic information about board members.

The bill, co-sponsored by Council Members Jimmy Van Bramer and Ben Kallos, is straightforward and reads much like a general population census. It would require the reporting of community board members’ names, neighborhoods, occupations, and employment, duration of board service, who they were appointed by, as well as aggregations by borough.

The bill also mandates the publishing of members’ attendance records and the number of vacancies on each community board.

The most important aspect of the bill, according to Torres, is the reporting of detailed demographic information -- obtained through a voluntary survey -- including race, gender, religion, sexual orientation, age, income, employment status, marital status, level of education, disability status, veteran status, language spoken at home or if they own or lease a car.

I'd much rather know who's representing me than stay in the dark. Presumably this is all public information, as it is a public office.

They have to root out ALL dissent.

Is that not how a Communist regime works???

more excuses to bring the CB into lockstep

Anon #1:
CB7 Chair: Kelty; 1st Vice Chair: Apelian; 2nd: Macchio; 3rd: Scheiber; 4th: McHugh.
How is that 100% Asian?

It's not. 100% Asian is what the quota would be.

All the more reason for everyday folk, working, middle class, with families, not to participate in the process. Why would I even think of serving on a CB at this point?

OK as long as the same applies to elected officials, I'm particularly interested in:

race, gender, religion, sexual orientation, age, income, employment status, marital status, level of education, disability status, veteran status, language spoken at home or if they own or lease a car.

How is that 100% Asian?

Will be. You wanna bet?

Why is sexual orientation important here?

Anything that back door politics Van Bramer supports should be automatically highly suspect!

Term limits need to be set for community boards. Look at CB7. How long has follow the buck Chuck Apellian been there?

So now they can appoint the "right" people.

Just add that these a-holes have to add how they are related to their staff employees. It will never pass.

President Obama this guy is not !! If this is the future of the city council i will pack my bags and move to Yonkers. Abandon ship while you can.

i saw the same thing in the paper a few months back on a high school election and how it was voided by the school staff because it didn't 'represent' the racial breakdown of the school.

don't we want people representing their district (or school or whatever), regardless of who lives there? does an asian just speak for the asians? blacks for blacks?

doesn't this just segregate and divide people instead of integrate them? why would a black person (according to this logic) move to a diverse area if an asian would be the one representing them?

i just don't understand this direction this country is heading.

It's only fair in this day and age.
I can't wait for illegal aliens to be appointed to the boards and then be granted the right to vote in municipal elections.

Nothing wrong with more information.

Quotas are bad - information is good.

Great video, that explains it all.

PANDERING AT ITS BEST.

Unless the information is, can, and will be used against you.

True Alinsky rules for radicals.

Keep defining and dividing into smaller and smaller groups until everyone is fighting one another.

Constant distractions...

As much as i disagree with all that Trump and the extreme right say about immigration, i do feel that we might see undocumented immigrants on community boards and possibly on the city council. There was a case last year in California. See below !!

Dump all community boards!
Look at the money NYC can save.
Their votes are purely advisory. Who needs a non functioning branch of government to lull us into thinking that we have a real say in how our neighborhoods are used?

Add up all of the salaries of all of the district managers and you could build a few new schools or badly needed hospitals.

Instead, hire more staff for city council offices to deal with what community boards fail to deliver.
Council members' votes are real. They will be held directly accountable by the voters with no community board middle men as a buffer zone. If your local CM doesn't deliver, you can fire him or her at the next election.

CB7 has had some people serving who have warmed a bench for thirty years.

Thank you for voting for morons....

But, Jerry, if we get rid of the community boards where will we get any politicos to run for office?
