So much for universal pre-K

From Capital New York:

With just over a week to go before the first day of school, New York City is closing seven pre-kindergarten sites because of contractual issues, construction problems and recently identified health violations, a de Blasio administration official said Tuesday.

The closures will affect 175 families, all of whom were notified late last week or over the weekend, the official said. The administration has matched 127 of the affected children with new sites and expects to place more over the next week. Pre-K classes begin Sept. 9.

The seven sites are part of four separate programs.

Muslim America Da Al-Dawah in Queens and Elite Kids Service in Brooklyn are each shuttering one site; B'Above in the Bronx is closing two sites and New Covenant Christian Schools in the Bronx is closing three of its sites.

Details about the closings were not provided.

Deport all these illegals and then we won't need so many schools opened! Deportation is the key to solving a lot of nyc problems but yet the government doesn't seem to want to abide by federal laws!

Now where are they going to put these kids? And are any of them amongst the thousands of homeless children currently in city but not community approved shelters?

Why is NYC funding religious organizations for this? If they are providing only child care and using all of the money for it, okay, but what oversight is there?

Once the violating conditions are corrected, they can open? IMO operators of multiple sites, with the resources to open multiple sites, should not be allowed to operate, period. They weren't able to get their act together, and are clearly in over their heads - or, they are not concerned about the safety of the kids.

There must be some oversight, or they wouldn't have shut these sites down.

To Anon #1's point, we make having kids one cannot afford too easy. Build a ton of schools, no problem! Just have baby after baby, we'll pick up the tab. Where will all these kids find jobs when (if) they get out of school? It's like packing 10 lbs of sausage in a 2 lb bag

This is what happens when you make the promise first (Pre K for everyone!) and then make the plan afterward. Only stupid people do it this way (NYC politicians)
