West Nile spraying this week

From NBC:

To reduce mosquito populations and the risk of West Nile virus, the New York City Health Department plans to spray pesticide from trucks on Tuesday and Wednesday in parts of Queens.

The spraying is scheduled between 8:30 p.m. Tuesday and 6 a.m. Wednesday, weather permitting. In case of bad weather, application will begin Wednesday.

No human cases of West Nile virus have been reported this season.

The neighborhoods to be sprayed include parts of Auburndale, Corona, Flushing, Fresh Meadows, Kew Gardens Hills, Murray Hill, Pomonok, Queensboro Hill, Utopia, Bellaire, Bellerose, Douglaston, Floral Park, Floral Park Center, Glen Oaks, Hollis Hill, Little Neck, and Oakland Gardens.

I worked at the USPS facility in Whitestone next to the wetlands that was once Flushing Airport. This area was considered Ground Zero for West Nile and one day we saw a helicopter right outside our windows doing spraying. We were never notified so our union the APWU made a complaint and we were told that they would notify us the next time.Blood tests were done to see if anyone had the virus and it was found that most people in the area had been exposed to West Nile but did not get sick only those with weakened immune systems and yes some people died.
How safe can it be to be spraying pesticides all over our population,it's bad enough when it's on our food.Remember the investigative reports on the stuff they were spraying?Malathion was a nerve agent developed by the Nazis and should never be exposed to temperatures over 90 degrees.Reports in the newspapers show pallets on the tarmac at Floyd Bennett Airport and it was way over 90 degrees there.
They tell you to close your windows and stay off the street during spraying. Also store owners should cover or bring in their produce. If you have an organic garden you are out of luck unless you can cover your garden.I know people that have told me that they were walking down the street in Kew Gardens and a truck came up behind them spraying as it went along and at the same time making an announcement to get off the streets.
There are things to do if you want to keep bugs off us but to spray an entire population doesn't seem to be the right way to go.
