Because Governors Island isn't overcrowded enough

From AM-NY:

Governors Island -- open to the public through Sept. 27 and offering free weekend tours, two forts (Castle Williams and Fort Jay) and a bevy of cultural and recreational opportunities -- is the latest "neighborhood" to be featured in NYC & Company's insider guides.

The selection of Governors Island as a featured destination will be announced this week in Shanghai as part of a new initiative to boost Chinese tourism in NYC, already up 250% in five years.

Yep. It's only a matter of time until some chunk of GI is set aside for development. It's too much to maintain the whole island and its historic (re: expensive) structures. Roosevelt Island is probably a good example. There's no other option. See it before it gets developed.

The only way to enjoy GI without the ridiculous crowds is to go on a weekday when you can truly enjoy the open space. If you don't mind the terrible helicopter air pollution from the Wall Street Heliport.

Chinese tourism up 250 percent? All those "tourists" must be buying one way plane fares.

You could get a higher price by offering Governor's Island in its entirety to China as sovereign territory. It could be an all-natural North American counterpart to their new artificial island in the South China Sea.

Governor's Island does not have its own water supply, development would be very expensive.

Move the entire UN, together with Ambossadir residences there.
