Business owner underreported income

From the Daily News:

The owner of an Edible Arrangements store in Queens has admitted to gorging himself on tax money, prosecutors said Thursday.

Maurice Letman, 42, of Springfield Gardens, pleaded guilty to lining his pockets with $185,000 forbidden fruit — money that should have gone to the city and state.

“Sales taxes are meant for the public treasury — not to line the pockets of businessmen,” said Queens District Attorney Richard Brown.

Letman has agreed to repay the full $185,000 plus interest and penalties.

He was charged last year with underreporting income from his Springfield Blvd. franchise of the popular fruit basket chain.

These are not legit businesses - they're fronts. You never see any customers inside - they open and close all over eastern Queens!!!

Why stop the investigation at 1 francise - investigate the entire company!

I see many Asian restaurants along Northern Blvd from Main Street to the Nassau border empty or only one or two tables occupied. How do they stay in business ? Are they washing money ?

What a dope. You can order online, no need to go into the store.

Edible Arrangements has been linked with Islamoterrorist organizations. I would never buy anything from them. http://www.debbieschlussel.com/56774/edible-arrangements-muslim-owners-of-fruit-basket-company-fund-hamas-jihadist-extremism-what-not-to-buy-for-christmas/

Authorities should start investigating Dunkin Donuts, Subway, 7-11, and gas stations for illegal activity.

If any of that is true, DO SOMETHING! Wire yourself to record and try again. Then, talk that evidence to the District Attorney and/or media.

I worked for the Edible Arrangements on Parsons Blvd, in 2008.
Some commenters seem to be suggesting that the store is irrelevant because they never see customers. All the production is done in those stores. The customer area is just a small area at the front of the shop for walk-ins....and people did walk in. You could pick up a select few pre-made arrangements, or order an arrangement.
