Graffiti complaints spike in Woodside

From DNA Info:

Graffiti complaints in the neighborhood have more than doubled so far this year compared to the year before, according to data, an uptick that some advocates attribute to aggressive reporting.

Since Jan. 1, there were 211 complaints made to the city's 311 system about graffiti in the 11377 ZIP code, which covers Woodside and includes small parts of Maspeth, Sunnyside and Elmhurst, according to stats found on NYC Open Data.

That's up from the 96 graffiti complaints the city received in the ZIP code through Oct. 13, 2013, an increase of nearly 120 percent.

This year's numbers are also 9 percent higher than the same period in 2012 when there were 193 calls about graffiti, city data shows.

An increase in reporting in no way modifies the reality of graffiti, for heaven's sake! Why is this response so prevalent?

Welcome back to the bad old days, friends. Your new Mayor Blaz encourages these antics, which originate in the oppressed communities of coloreds, right? No Second Term! No Second Term!

Dinkins Era all over again!

The bad ol days were not all bad, and this song brings back some nice memories of when NY was diverse in a real American way, with lots of middle class and working class Whites, Blacks and Hispanics. I miss that city..just not the graffiti and crime.

As I've said time and time again...

Place a $50 DEPOSIT on every can of spray paint sold and take the sellers name and address off of a valid photo ID so as to trace who is buying the cans and you must be 21 years old to purchase it.

But of course our city council and state reps don't have the guts to sponsor this.

Same amount of graffiti as before, theres just far more gentrifiers (who have a knack for complaining) moving in thats why theres an increase in reports.
The mid-2000's were the last time graffiti was king of the streets, now you have abundant and affordable surveillance equipment, social media snitching and hefty sentences and laws.
There has never been so little graffiti on the streets in the modern history of NYC, what little graffiti there actually is has also suffered from quality control since now only dumb unaware kids are doing it (being that older people have become reluctant).
Be thankful.

to JQ: thanks for the link... hmm, actually the trains are better now but the graffiti on the walls is worst than in the 80'... The population is worst than in the 80'. To conclude, except the trains, everything is worst..

You do? Turn the mother in. Or are you too afraid?

If the vandals would only use their "art" to put up messages that criticize our crooked pols, the I would not mind graffiti.

LOL! It looks like Woodside is no longer on the move.
