You'll just have to take it with you
From WPIX:
The MTA is expanding the pilot progam to remove trash cans.
Transit crews are taking away the trash cans at 29 stations in along the J amd M lines in Brooklyn and Queens. It’s part of a 6-month pilot program, according to the signs.
“The results have been for the most part very positive and we have seen some behavioral changes by riders,” said Department of Subways, SVP Joe Leader. “We will expand the pilot to stations between Broad Street and Jamaica Center-Parsons/Archer in order to gauge the impact along an entire line segment.”
In a presentation to the MTA board, a transit representative reported a reduction in trash although slightly more was found on the tracks.
The MTA removes 40 tons of trash every day from the system from more than 3,500 trash receptacles.

Morons! How much do these idiots make?
Remove the trash bin and the trash magically disappears. Where do they think it goes?
Absolute stupidity. Do they ever go on a subway?
OK to schlepp around a gum wrapper but a banana peel?
This is stupid....people will just throw their trash on the tracks or just leave it on the train.
Coffee cups, candy wrappers, fruit, water and soda bottles, potato chip bags, twinkles wrappers, newspapers, fast food styrofoam boxes, ice cream cups and wrappers, cigarette boxes, gum, advertising flyers, phone cards, metro cards, plastic bags, candy bar wrappers.....hey MTA, you know damn well where all of this is already ending up. Better purchase some new track sweeper vacuums. MTA: More Trouble Ahead .
I love the MTA's logic that if there are trash cans, people's habits will change.Since 2011,I still see discarded stryfoam dishes from chinese and spanish restaraunts, coffee cups, and newspapers still in the cars and on the tracks
I also love the patronizing flyers at the eastern parkway station. As seen on the clip, one can assume(if they are but certainly not)commuters are holding on to their trash to throw on the curbs later.
What they apparently want is not to give people government salary wages cleaning up the subway. The people they have cleaning now look like they come from some sort of employment agency and are making minimum wage.they are the ones with the safety vests on with the brooms and the mops.
Have any of you been on the 7 lately? I see them Asian eat breakfast everyday and then leave the trash under the seats...
No more eating or drinking on the trains!!!! It's gotten totally out of hand.
You just carry the trash of the trains and bring it to the street ca... Oh wait, i forgot. The DSNY is getting rid of many street cans as well.
As always, higher fees, higher taxes, less service!
Trash cans are places to hide bombs; the people who drop their crap wherever will do so whether there's a can available or not.
