College Point brush fire

From CBS New York:

A brush fire broke out and destroyed about an acre of tall grass Tuesday afternoon in College Point, Queens.

The fire broke out 4:45 p.m. at 23rd Avenue and Ulmer Street in Queens, in the shadows of LaGuardia Airport, CBS 2’s Joe Biermann reported.

The FDNY pushed into the heart of the brush fire, and appeared to have extinguished much of it by shortly after 5 p.m. No buildings were involved in the fire, and there were no reports of injuries.

The scene of the fire is in an industrial area across Flushing Bay from LaGuardia Airport, and close to College Point Fields.

How about at the site of the former Flushing Airport snd stalled Linden Place Extension project. How many people know (or care) where the College Point Firlds are? You might also mention its proximity to the Whitestone.Expwy. and NY Times printing plant.Probanly better landmarking/contextualization.

Or many people may not care about that, or Channel 2 may nwanted the reporter to get to the heart of the matter in a limited amount of time.

25th Ave. and Ulmer, I think, not 23rd.

BTW, do the Asians know there is still an acre of open grass in Queens?

2 brush fires in a week, this does not bode well.

there is potential for this happening in other brush areas near highways,I immediately think of the conduits in south queens, van wyck, and clearview.

i wonder how big a hole we have in the ozone layer.there are days when the sun is blazing even in the 40s.

This will give the city a good reason to develop here.
