Koslowitz & Katz blew him off, so he called Help Me Howard

From PIX 11:

There’s a well-traveled footbridge in Rego Park, Queens. It’s near a subway station, over LIRR tracks at Austin Street and 67th Avenue. And it was worrying the neighborhood because all the lights were out.

“It’s dangerous no matter how you look at it,” schoolteacher and nearby resident Joe Austin told me. “This past Saturday a man was lurking in the shadows and pulled a knife on a group of senior citizens returning from temple service…As we were waiting for the police two young boys came running off the bridge and said that a man had threatened them.”

Police arrested that guy. But residents didn’t feel safe.

They called Con Ed. They called the City Department of Transportation. But they got nowhere. The same with politicians. What do you think happened when Joe called his local councilwoman?

JOE: “We were met with uh I wish we could do more. Our hands are tied.”

HOWARD: “Nice.”

JOE: “And then I called my Borough President’s office and they told me call Con Ed.”

HOWARD: “What are elected officials for?”

JOE: “I wish I knew.”

He should have called Curtis to send in some Guardian Angels.

Our elected officials (most of them)and our city agencies are worth shit. Why even waste money on them, if they serve no purpose to a community. Talk about a huge waste of money.

And I thought is was just Jamaica jackass elected leaders who were bad.

I think if it were not for Queens Crap, Help Me Howard, Greg Mocker and other media outlets, nothing would ever get done.

Joe does nothing but curse. A child and a crank all at once. Anyone who knows The Koz knows that she is trying. But there is a process. Nothing gets done overnight.

I think that Crappy has something to do with this.

The typical Queens resident is afraid of their shadow, loses all composure when a pol walks into a room, resigned like Stepnfetchet to their low status, and harbor resentment that festers or manifests itself in moving.

Get a backbone people.

Those in office work for you - they have taken money from your families in the form of taxes to give you services, not to build their resume.

Show up! Act up! Write! Make noise!

The only thing you have to lose is your chains.

FUCK YOU hiding behind your ANON bullshit. When a council member or any other elected states: "My hands are tied", that translates to "I am not going to bother to do anything". Also the word "trying" or "will try" means "I will do nothing".

So again a BIG FUCK YOU to you and your ilk that make a million excuses for these knuckle head asshole elected officials who work for US and whom WE pay for their over inflated salary.

People like you are the fucking problem.

I did not know that speaking out against bullshit and useless elected officials was considered "childish and being a crank".

Now for the third time GO FUCK YOURSELF.

That's the point! This is the best this lazy waste of tax payer's dollars and her staff can do!

"The Koz" is a lame duck who then backed the wrong horse in the Council speaker race. Obviously, I of all people may be biased, but from my experience and numerous people I've talked to in this district, I find it hard to believe she is trying to do much of anything aside from shell out the pittance of pork she's been handed to more connected or high profile constituents.

Can someone please investigate why Michael Cohen, former disgraced Assemblyman, is on The Koz's payroll???

Have been working on this problem for years and yes it is Con Edison who is not turning on the power. One very cold winter a city cotractor was out there three nights trying to hook it up and no power. I told one of elected officials to tell Con Edison hook it up now or I will go the Press . Next night they were on.

Even the Police when they tried to work on this got the same runaround.

Very good question re MC.

"What are elected officials for"?

Answer:
To get their photos in the syncophantic community papers. You ever read the Queens Times? Jim Lisa's ass-kissing rag?

Listen up. These politicians are not movie stars. They are, as the Greatest Caller (ever) to Talk Radio, Frank of Queens, has said over and over: "They are the hired help." That's all - the hired help. And what does one do with the hired help if they're not doing their job?

Michael Cohen is something of a liaison to Koslowitz, attending CB meetings as her representative. That is, except for when he's not too busy napping (last June, CB9).

Anon, why don't you investigate it? It's a simple matter of putting in a FOIL request to Barry Goldstein (Bgoldstein@council.nyc.gov) at her office for documents that document Mr. Cohen's title and job duties.

Torodash & Moretti, let's put Koslowitz into perspective by comparing her to Van Bramer or Avella. Suppose a streetlight is not working. Both Koslowitz and Van Bramer would call the DOT and be told "we are aware and working on it."

The difference is that Van Bramer or Avella would mount a press conference while Koslowitz patiently gives the DOT a couple of days to respond while partnering with local civics, fellow electeds and community board on the case. Ask yourself, does the press conference make a difference in resolving the case? Ask that question from Tony Avella.

And Joe, as a civic activist and possible future candidate, I don't wish to have my name soiled by engaging in a pissing match with you. If the Queens Crapper can remain anonymous, so can I : )

If they told her that they were aware and working on it, why would they need a couple of days to respond? They didn't respond for weeks in this case, and Koslowitz told the guy, "I wish there was more we could do". That sounds like a royal blowoff to me, not someone diligently following up.

The lights were out for neatly 3 months! I question the leadership skills of any elected who cannot correct such a dangerous matter affecting their constituent in a timely fashion..
A phone call and meeting with those parties involved with repairs would have gone a long way.
There are ways of getting things done quickly and efficiently. It's called applying pressure . I rarely see that full fledged eagerness coming out of that particular district.

Wait I still want to know why the lame duck michael Cohen is in koslowitzs payroll....am I to belvedere he is collecting a pension and salary?

Thats a very good question to bring up. There should be an official inquiry made.

Not always, but yes, it certainly can. A press conference has a chance of blowing into a story that enough people will pay attention to. City officials don't like bad press, especially around election time. But now that Koz is a lame duck, as was pointed out, I guess she doesn't really care - that's kind of the whole point to this story. Can't remember a single press conference she gathered except when the DCA went down QB ticketing businesses right by her office. It was a good thing she did, but that was once out of how many years in the Council she's had?

Are you one of her lackeys posting this? If so, you're also to blame.

Anonymous said...

That's just it. She doesn't give a damn. She is collecting 2 pensions and a $160k salary...all with a HS education.
Now you know the rest of the story.
