Ron Kim brokers truce in McDonald's war

From the Queens Chronicle:

Korean-American Assemblyman Ron Kim (D-Flushing) announced Monday morning that he had brokered a truce between Korean seniors and a Flushing McDonald’s over seating rights.

Kim stepped into the fray and arranged a compromise during a weekend session with the McDonald’s owner, Jack Bert, and 12 of the seniors. From now on, seniors will have extended sitting hours except during high-traffic hours from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.; signs will be posted to communicate the change in Chinese and Korean; and Kim will collaborate with area senior centers in offering transportation to and from the restaurant.

Senior centers offer meals, so why do they need to shuttle their clients back and forth to McDonald's?

Let me guess...Kim is going to allocate funding (our tax dollars) for this unnecessary shuttling?

What a crock!

I would love to know exactly how long "extended sitting hours" are and to whom this privilege is bestowed. Just these 12 special Korean seniors?

And the lame owner is going to facilitate this whole process and the owner is ceding his right to call the cops?

Please...

These Koreans have 3 Korean stores for every Korean in Flushing barely anyone in these stores all the way up Northern. And they need to have sitting hours in McDonalds?

Flushing has really gone to hell in a handbasket.

Dennis Rodman to the rescue!

These seniors are ridiculous! Why do the laws have to bend for some old people? They don't spend any money there and after they are done eating, they should leave! If it was any other race I'm sure these same community leaders would be crying that they are disrupting business. These seniors have their own homes to sit in, I'm sure. So let them go take the coffee home with them and talk in their own houses. They act like they are so special. ...If the shoe was on the other foot and there was some white or black people sitting there in a group, I'm sure these same seniors would be crying that there's no place to sit. It would be funny to see a bunch of old white chinese men sitting in those seats before those old Korean men get there- it'll be world war 3 in McDonald's!

Why don't these seniors retire back in their own country?

Government should stay out of private enterprise. End of story!
What would happen if a group of Irish or Italian American seniors were to sit in a Korean cafe all day long? Would Kim broker a deal there too? And why is Stavisky involved in this? Where has she been during the mass destruction that these same people have wrought on Flushing over the past 20 years?!!
What bull@&!#€!

Funny, I remember the same problem with teenagers in pizza parlors... no politicians got involved, no NY Times articles - generally speaking, no cops, either. Why was that different?

A new entitlement has been created.

Why doesn't Bert get city money to offset the loss of income from the Grey Korean division of "Occupy McDonalds"?

The worst McDonald's in the world. 20 minutes' wait for any meal. Fries often served half cooked. The only thing good is its location.

This is a freakin joke! Even this politician is advocating for this nonsense, really sad.

Yep, more money out of our pockets because they didn't want to leave old mamma kim-san back home.

"Why don't these seniors retire back in their own country?"

'Retire' would imply they worked here, which never happens. The elderly asians are brought over here by their children/grandchildren because to do otherwise would be considered abandoning your family in their culture.

The only thing they *might* do is walk around and collect bottles from your trash, but other than that, they are bags of meat taking up space and resources.

Again, what is wrong with the Queens Library? The board of developers might short hours and staff compared the the other boroughs but what the hell is wrong with their programs that the senior don't go there?

The library is spending a king's ransom on their capital budget for facilities - hope the purpose is little more than enriching insider devlopers.

You go to Flushing its Asians and to Astoria its Greeks and to Yorkville its Hungarians.

This is a problem across the city and since seniors are both prickly and babied by the politicians, nothing will be done about it until they get fined and their ringleaders or repeat offenders cool their heels in a cell for a few hours.

That is the language they understand.

It's about time that we adjust to the customs of the immigrants. After all we should learn the mores of the land they fled to make them feel more at home.

We need to send politicians on a fact finding trip to the immigrants home countries and bring back all those great traditions they left behind.

Moby and Meng were at the photo op/press conference with Kim. I guess there's nothing to do in Albany or Washington...

Yep. Go to Astoria and its a hangout culture. One guy was interviewed on TV as he immigrated from Greece due to the economic collapse and he spent his time watching Greek TV in a Greek diner and obviously no it looking for a job which he said was hard to get. Seniors don't need to cow to anyone as they've seen it all. Some may be War vets. Who knows? I see old Caucasian women hanging out in a Chinese bakery drinking coffee and just hanging out. I wound up chatting with them and they said they liked the place to hang out.

Sigh, no one brokered a deal for me and my friends when we were teens without a tax funded center. We just sat in every fast food place for a half hour or so until the manager kicked us out and went on to the next place. Too bad this McDonalds wasn't there yet, it is on the route! We had to walk all the way from Burger King to the shopping center on Parsons and Northern and then all the way to Main St.! The difference being, we left when we were told to go, but supposedly we were "bad" kids!

I was reading about this in the Ny Daily News a few days ago and one person interviewed in the article said something to the effect of: "The old people have nowhere to congregate. In Korea, there are no time limits on how long you can be in a restaurant."

No place to congregate? HOW ABOUT YOUR HOMES?

Remember when McDonald's food used to be good? Yeah, me neither.

This guy is the worst. Ron Kim, when he is with Koreans, he tells them how he hates disgusting Chinese. Then he goes to the Chinese and tells them how they are so much better than the Koreans. This is old news, but Ron Kim's favorite word is " janggae " which is equivalent to the N-word for describing African Americans but used by Koreans to describe Chinese.

Ron Kim is as corrupt as shelly silver. "Pay to play Ron" as we call him in Flushing.
