It pays to have relatives in Congress

From Forest Hills Patch:

Former Assemblyman Jimmy Meng, father of U.S. Rep. Grace Meng, was sentenced to one month in prison this week in a bribery scandal that broke during his daughter's run for Congress, according to NY1.

Meng will also have to pay restitution of $30,000, and will be subject to four months of house arrest.

The sentence was lighter than many other Queens legislators have been forced to serve, including former Forest Hills Assemblyman Alan Hevesi. Hevesi served 19 months for a scam involving the state's pension funds.

Exactly what happened with Joseph Liu the father of John Liu.

Joe was convicted in the Great Eastern Bank scandal and he also was given an absurdly light sentence.

To this day Johnny complains that his dad was mistreated, but I think his day should have gotten 20 years, like any bank robber.

What a crooked pair...father and daughter Meng.

They must have the book on some shady judges, for Jimmy to get such a light slap o the wrist.

Then again, maybe Jimmy rolled over on some bigger fish, in exchange for receiving a light sentence.

Deals like this don't generally get handed out for nothing.

Meng must have turned stoolie and did some ratting out.

Take care Jimmy...the opposing tongs are relentless.

That's why she ran for office...knowing she could help daddy with Congress on her side. Dispicable!

"...should have gotten 20 years, like any bank robber."

Liu's dad worked as a director of Great Eastern Bank. He was also a partner in a real estate investment company that was developing a parcel on Main Street. Liu got the bank to sign a multi-year lease for it's headquarters with the real estate company and the bank dumped a $1 million payment to the real estate firm. Whoops! That was a misuse of bank money which Liu and his cohorts covered up with bookkeeping chicanery. The government found out and Liu was convictred of bank fraud.

His sentence? One month in jail and six months of home confinement. Meng got the same jail time but two months less in home confinement.

Having a child as a federal elected official is better than having a child who is a municipal elected official.

In reference to the above...

Exactly!.
Just as I said.

John Liu's father is a CONVICTED BANK THIEF.

He should have been sentenced to 20 years, but he got off almost scot free.

To this day John Liu cries like a baby that bank-thief dada didn't just get away with it.

Daddy ought to be in jail today, in my view, with ten more years ahead of him still.

One more thing....

John Liu's dada was the PRESIDENT of the Great Eastern Bank AND a Director.

Some day the FBI will connect all the players in that crooked Taiwanese daisy chain:

Tommy Huang; John & Joseph Liu; Cecilia Chang...
yawn...so on and so forth.

Then you've got the Ackerman gang of thieves to clean up...PHEW!
