Keeping our heads above water

From the Daily News:

The City Council voted Wednesday to order a city panel of climate scientists to come up with plans to deal with rising sea levels and extreme heat that could result from climate change.

The idea is to figure out ways to deal with — or ideally prevent — the kind of massive flooding that could leave chunks of a city of islands underwater during storms.

City officials — who say the sea level could rise by about 4 1/2 feet by the end of the century — have already begun to plan development projects with rising sea levels in mind.

The massive Willets Point development in Queens is being built at an elevated level to keep new buildings out of the floodplain, as is the new Sims Recycling Facility in Brooklyn.

Brooklyn Bridge Park and Governors Island were designed with higher shorelines and salt-resistant plants that can withstand occasional flooding, and flood gates were installed at the Tallman Island Wastewater Treatment Plant.

The city has also tweaked its zoning code to allow building owners to store electrical equipment on the roof, instead of in flood-prone basements.

Please name the city officials who say this. They should be tarred and feathered.

For those that fear this please take the time to read this:

The president of Maldives says his country is not going to drown and that was supposed to prove something?

4 1/2 feet walls will do nothing against a combined Atlantic + Long Island Sound inrush surge of a category 5 hurricane.
Now add 40-100 foot waves atop this surge.
Water from the last one carved out the Shinnicock canal and 40 foot cliffs on Robins island.
WHAT MORONS, water is the last of the problem. All these new cheap buildings you see with the plastic lions and bowling pins will be down and all over the street. Lots of dead people, caskets floating out of cematarys.

4 1/2 foot walls wont stop this, its more likely to make things worse for draining & cleanup

QC The Maldives were the poster child for flooding due to "global warming". Their former president had used the issue to scam the western nations into forking over millions.

To have the current president admit it is not going to sink beneath the waves underscores the fact that virtually every prediction made by the doom sayers have been wrong.

Why waste money on things like this when the people making the predictions are constantly being proved wrong.

Look if you are hipsters moving next to a train yard and wake up one morning - well next to a train yard - you can always count on Jimmy no Brainer ready to make great speeches ...

and ready to throw about lots of money that he tells his constituents that he doesn't have

to coddle the people that are replacing those he grew up with.

Your problem is no 30 story buildings full of hipsters blocking your waterfront.

If your community has been around more than say 15 or 20 years no one really gives a sh*t.

believe it or not ? "Two months ago , James Lovelock, the godfather of global warning, gave a startling interview to MSNBC.com in which he acknowledged he had been unduly "alarmist" about climate change. "

A-1

Sorry I only posted twice, the last one about MSNBC was not me. If I were to post something like that I'd mention that one of the co-founders of Greenpeace thinks global warming is scam.

Do you find the truth uncomfortable?
