If at first, you don't succeed...

From the Daily News:

The Triumph of Civic Virtue, the controversial, crumbling statue that sits outside Queens Borough Hall, has evoked a lot of squawking over the years from critics and supporters.

But now, even people casually passing the monument at the corner of Queens Blvd. and Union Turnpike are getting an earful.

The city has installed an electronic device that emits piercing bird calls in an effort to keep pigeons from roosting on the statue.

The intermittent screeching has caught the attention of people walking through the busy intersection.

The city’s unflappable pigeons, however, appear to be unimpressed by the effort.

On a recent day, a handful of pigeons barely stirred from their perches on the statue as the squawks emanated from the box.

The best way to get pigeons to stop roosting on the statue is to keep people from feeding them right there.

This statue was carved by the Picollini brothers who were located in the Bronx.
The Picollini brothers are without question some of the very few American Masters of sculpture. When we think of the great masters we usually think of the European greats.
The Picollini brothers are a tremendous American success story, they immigrated from Italy to the Bronx NY.
They are world renowned for their working, which includes the Lions outside the NYC library and the statue of Lincoln at the Lincoln memorial in Washington.
Only in NYC would people attempt to destroy this artistic masterpiece. That fact that the statue is in such a horrible state is disgraceful.
I am surprised that some of the Italian organizations haven't demanded that this great work of art be given the respect it deserves. Funding should be provided immediately and to restore and maintain this treasure.

The statue will be moved to Piazza Italia in Whitestone.

Fix it...What a disgrace...It is a piece of history, a piece of art. To allow this to go on is a disgrace..It should have been repaired a long time ago. Many people like this statue. Although that is not the point. Like it or not, your city is not taking care of it. Allowing it to become an eyesore, like so much else is a disgrace in a country like this. Fine reputation it embodies. Europeans would be horrified.
