Lots of shooting around these parts lately

From the NY Post:

A cold-blooded ex-con killed one man and wounded another yesterday on a crowded Queens bus he was using to flee the scene of an earlier murder, police said.

Panicked riders surged toward the front of the Q111 bus in Jamaica when the gunfire erupted at 4 p.m. near a major transit hub.

Marvin Gilkes, 36, a student who worked at a nearby Home Depot, was hit in the back of the head and died instantly as he stood by the rear exit of the bus, talking on his cellphone, cops said.

Passenger Jojuan Lipsey, 29, a married dad of two, was struck in the face at the front of the bus and stumbled onto the sidewalk, officials said. He was rushed to Jamaica Hospital in stable condition.

Paranoid lunatic Damel Burton, 34 — newly released from prison after serving seven years behind bars for robbery — later told cops he killed Gilkes because “I didn’t like the way he was looking at me.”

Burton claimed he similarly targeted Lipsey “because he was staring” at him, sources said.

From the Daily News:

Police are chasing leads in the brutal assassination-style killing of a Queens man who was shot nine times early Saturday morning in Howard Beach.

Witnesses said gunmen in a dark-colored Lexus fired at the victim, a 29-year-old Hispanic male, as he tried to speed away from them in a white Acura sedan.

The victim, whose name has not yet been released by police, finally crashed into two parked cars at the corner of 155 Ave. and Huron St.

The shooters then approached the wrecked car on foot and shot the wounded driver again, said a witness who wouldn’t give his name.

From NY1:

The hunt is on for a man who brazenly opened fire on police in broad daylight on a Queens street.

Investigators say two officers were walking in Jackson Heights shortly before 4 p.m. Friday when they were told about a man acting suspiciously at 37th Road and 76th Street.

Police say the officers walked over and saw the man in the above surveillance video. He was wearing a fake beard, a hat and dark glasses.

When they asked him for ID, police say he pulled out a black revolver and fired twice before taking off down 77th Street.

The officers weren't hurt. They chased the man but did not find him.

"When they asked him for ID"

Many people are surprised to learn that in New York State, you are not legally required to carry any form of identification at any time. That’s right--there is no law that says you need to have i.d. or show i.d. to a police officer.

^^^^Exactly...its Jamaica.

Everyone wants to be a gangsta.

Jamaica is a place to do business?

Maybe if you have a 99 cents store, crack house, or whore house. No decent person has voluntarily step foot on Jamaica Avenue since 1960.

Another black eye for Jamaica Center and another reason to stay away, The place hasn't changed in 40 years and never will no matter how many $millions are wasted on trying to turn it around.

Maybe not, but when an officer has reasonable suspicion, they are authorized to ask the person concerned for ID and an explaination of their conduct. And they do have a very reasonable expectation to be able to do that without getting shot at.

"they are authorized to ask the person concerned for ID and an explaination of their conduct."

And the person is FULLY AUTHORIZED to NOT HAVE ID and NOT HAVE AN EXPLANATION of their conduct.

"And they do have a very reasonable expectation to be able to do that without getting shot at."

No they actually DON'T. They are paid to put their lives on the line EVERYDAY so an officer should , in actually, be EXPECTED TO BE SHOT at.

Try again?

No, they DONT get paid to get shot at, and they DONT have to EXPECT to be shot at. They are paid to keep the peace in society, and as such, they UNDERSTAND that to do so, that there is a possibility of getting shot at. Therefore, because of the dangerous nature of their work, they PREPARE for the POSSIBILITY of being shot at, and their training consists of defensive and offensive tacticts, to assist them in the survival of such deadly phyiscal force. No cop should have to EXPECT to be shot at, and society should never expect them to be shot at. As for your whole ID issue, I have no idea why you are even bringing this up in response eo an article about a moron who fired on two cops.

Whatever their expectaions, those are on an individual basis. Ill say this no matte who you are you can get shot at. Being a cop only INCREASES those chances in my opinion.

Nobody goes down the street saying I'm going to shoot an old lady but there are plenty if not thousands of people who would love to blow some "pigs" head off.
