Francis Lewis eyesore continues

From the Queens Gazette:

State Senator Tony Avella was joined by the North East Flushing Civic Association at a press conference in front of an unsightly abandoned corner property, located at 24-19 Francis Lewis Blvd., to address the complete lack of maintenance of the site by the city.

The property has been an eyesore for at least ten years. In 2009, the property owner stopped paying property taxes and the site has now become a storage unit for trucks, dumpsters and scattered garbage. Although the city Department of Buildings issued a full stop work order earlier this year, residents and businesses are still forced to live by an unsightly lot that has become a blight on their neighborhood.

“This lot has been a thorn in the side of the community for over a decade,” stated Avella. “The owner has not made any attempt to clear out or maintain the lot and it has become a constant target of graffiti vandals and litter. Usually I say, ‘there’s everything in there except the kitchen sink.’ However, in this case, there actually is a kitchen sink. A haggard looking lot like this creates a financial disaster for neighbors, who gradually see their property values decrease.”

Avella was informed by the Department of Finance that a tax lien was placed on the property because of $15,809.86 in unpaid property taxes and sanitation violations since 2009. That lien was supposedly sent to the city Tax Lien Trust earlier this year. However, it now appears that the city has yet to follow through on enforcing its lien.

The old Words Fair site at Flushing Meadows Park has been an eyesore for 50 years as has the abandoned LIRR Rockaway spur, as has the Gowanus Canal area, as has the Civic Virtue statue, as has Willets Point,....
This is Queens , land of eyesores....land of corrupt politicians...

Seize the property - or at least close it up so that the trucks parked on the property cannot be removed by the renter-users.

Thats the property accross from the Queens GOP offices and Hallorans office.

Its a great spot every election cycle to put up election posters for every republican candidate.

Never have seen a Democratic poster now that I think of it. Hmm!!!

Maybe it belongs to a republican?

start with slashing the truck tires. See if that gets the owners attention.

That's right, directly across from Halloran's office, and he's never done SHIT about it.
WAY to go HALLORAN!

It's been an eyesore for more that ten years - it's in the 19 Council District, which Avella represented and did nothing about it.

Just another Phony Tony photo-op!

How are the renters supposed to know if the owner is paying his bills or not? The unpaid taxes are not the responsibility of any renters. How can you justify penalizing them? Jerk.

How about because this is an R2A zone and the people parking their commercial vehicles on the lot are illegally renting the space and violating the zoning code? Jerk.

the parking of commercial licensed vehicles on residential properties in Auburndale/Bayside has been prevalent since T.Avella's leadership and nothing was done.

many of these vehicles park in the early evening and leave in the AM. almost impossible to ticket, especially when the D.O.B. seems not to function at night time.

the authorities do not give a dam, as usual.

i visited halloran's office and only observed nice one family homes with manicured lawns across the street.
get your information correct ,"dictator democrat"....

exceot for the building dan and his bundler rent office space from. you know that spot used to house "nice one family homes with manicured lawns" till a republican with connections obtained all he variances needed to build the crap that exists there now.

this spot is on the corner across the street, not directly across from the crap that is their office.

Yes tony was useless and continues to be useless but he has come up with some beneficial laws. as a senator he has been getting along and getting things done. where has braunstein been?

they all suck

Former Republican , current IDGAS

RE:"yes, tony has come up with some beneficial laws."

please detail these laws ?

well now, one of them is the recent "HOMOSEXUAL MARRIAGE LAW" which diminishes the man/woman TRADITIONAL MARRIAGE VOWS.

Well lets see the zoning laws that have helped protect areas such as bayside, douglaston, whitestone, etc...

If gays were given the same rights as the traditional man and woman then maybe it wouldnt have gotten to where it is now.

Another eyesore in the area is the house at the northeast corner of 33rd ave and Utopia Pkwy. The grass - actually weeds - always grow to several feet tall in the summer, and nothing is ever cut or trimmed. Many trees growing through the bushes. People can't even walk on the sidewalk. Yet you can see that a car goes in and out of the driveway because it leaves two tracks through the weeds.

the asian daycare center that was squeezed into two residential 40x 100 plots at 196-29 42 avenue/42-50 F.L.Blvd., will be the most congested section in the area ,when the 300 tots are moved in across the street from the 350 pupil P.S.130 Q.
it will be a schoolbus and people mover van/car night mare.

one of the plots was a demolished two story brick resident that was bought by a John Liu donor for $980,000.00, built in 1970.
