Another case of DOT overthinking, overreacting and overspending. Dumb!!!
You are not going to get any real answers because in Queens, when it comes to things like, lets say a development project for 10,000, you might get a square inch rendering and some 4th hand confusing except of 150 words .... while on the front page is a large 5 by 5 inch photo op of some hack doing something pointless and forgettable.
Another case of lousy sensationalist reporting by the tv news.
The situation shown on 55th Dr was always like that. When a tractor trailer backs into the docks of the buildings, it has to stop traffic in both directions and the traffic backs up. That shouldn't be any surprise, and unless you want to put those warehouses out of business, there is no practical solution for these temporary back ups.
The Maspeth bypass plan does not even send trucks down 55th Dr. Please explain how that section of 55th Dr is impacted by trucks using Maurice or 58th St. The news story certainly didn't explain it.
And the shock at the "dangerous" condition of a truck turning left under the LIE at 58th St. is completely ridiculous. That underpass has enough clearance for large trailers. So it looks close, does that somehow make it unsafe? No it doesn't.
If you have some legitimate gripes with the new plan, lets hear them. But that news story is total garbage.
The bypass forces traffic down 55th Drive because both Maurice Avenue and 58th Street were made one way in opposite directions. What I had said during the interview which wasn't shown is that the community never asked for one way streets, we just asked that the trucks be forced to stay on the already designated truck routes.
