CB1 objects to dance club

From the Daily News:

A dance club aficionado who wants to open a new hotspot in Astoria is vowing to move ahead with his plan despite neighborhood opposition.

Community Board 1 on Tuesday rejected a cabaret license application by Ivan Diaz Young, who wants to open a Latin dance club called Club 4 on the fourth floor of the Astoria Sports Complex on 38th St.

Young vowed to forge ahead with his plan, and expects to open the velvet rope in three months.

"We'll do whatever needs to be done. We've invested not only a lot of money but a lot of time," said Young, 43, of Fresh Meadows.

Young told the community board that he has installed sufficient sound proofing, but the board unanimously denied his license application.

Young's lawyer, Kerry Katsorhis, said the board doesn't have the final say.

"The community board's recommendation is a recommendation." he said, noting that his client can still request a hearing for a license from the city Department of Consumer Affairs. The City Council would then make the call.

The Astoria Sports Complex previously rented out its fourth floor to another Latin dance club called La Oveja Negra, which received noise and safety complaints before it closed in May.

Ivan Diaz Young

No offense meant to this individual, but can any name be more ethnically diverse?

Soundproofing the building itself is one thing (as long as the doors and windows are kept closed). But, who's going to soundproof the patrons as when they exit in the wee hours?

If one placed closed down because of noise complaints what is to say the next one wont?

Is that guy allowed to wear his UPS jacket when he's not working?

Reginald Martinez Jackson maybe?

I remember reading where Mickey Rivers once said to Reggie: "You have a white man's first name, a Puerto Rican middle name, and a black man's last name!"

Absolutely not.

Isnt the floor where the club is an illegal add-on? Besides, I think the only way up or down is by one elevator. Happyland anyone?

That's not a UPS jacket. Looks like a NASCAR outfit.

Let's not be ignorant! The color of our skin has nothing to with your name. Your parents have a right to name you any name they want. By the way every one has either some black, or white in their families. My mom is black and my father is white from Europe. Well there you have it and who do you think you are to judge people by their color of their skin or name.
