You the dope

This is quite stupid. But it comes from the geniuses at DOT, so we wouldn't expect anything different.

- Dumb slogan: "You the Man" (as if 1990s street lingo is appropriate for this campaign and women don't drink and drive).

- Hanukkah gelt, which is given to children, as part of anti-drunk driving campaign.

- Referral to car services disguised as public service announcement.

- This campaign being conducted in English is probably not going to be very effective.

A reader wrote to yours truly:

"Jeez, now the city's babysitting drunks?

Then again, it will help Bloombergers build a database of drunks, which probably has a lot of good blackmail-type uses.

If I had the energy, I would recruit a legion of homeless drunks to sign up for rides to JFK and back."

Hey there is nothing wrong in keeping drunks and druggies out of vehicules and giving them a ride to wherever.

Driver take me to Key West and step on it.

Sarcastically referring to them as geniuses and calling their campaign stupid is an example of the kind of thing that spoils QC for me. There are some good criticisms in your blog, but they're spoiled by the childish tone.

Oh cry me a river. When something is stupid, I say so. And sarcastically calling them geniuses is not out of line. I've chronicled all their expensive past fuck ups quite thoroughly.

If you don't like the tone of the blog, you're welcome to not read it.

Get Opie and Anthony to do that. It's right up their alley.

No, it's better to encourage stupified drunks to get behind the wheel and then drive home real fast, to limit their exposure...

Of course it's tone-deaf and dopey and won't resonate with the target audience.

Hard-drinking straight people from out in the boroughs don't get hired in the centers of power.

"Are you driving home?"
"Yeah."
"Good, because you're too drunk to walk."

The campaign is just dumb. Period.

Sadly, we probably paid a lot of money to some ad agency to come up with this.
