Whitestone is becoming UGLY thanks to these big stupid buildings.
These big stupid buildings serve as pillars of Thriving North East Queens.
The local Greek-American community has contributed greatly to the relative high standard of living here in NE Queens.
I'm a fan of this blog but its become apparent it has a tendency to pick on certain ethnic groups; in particular the Greeks and Bukharians(2 of the wealthiest ethnic groups in the USA no less.)Jealous perhaps??

How did I "pick on" an ethnic group by linking to a page about Whitestone? I link to every Queens-related page on Forgotten-NY.
Not one tree on the entire property.
The link you provided obviously portrayed the new Greek Church in a negative light.
The author of forgotten-ny clearly states he/she prefers the tiny,old greek church that in no way could accomodate the large Greek community in Whitestone e.t.c.
And fyi the construction of the church and school mentioned above was funded by local Malba billionaire Efstathios Valiotis.He emigrated to queens 30 years ago as a dishwasher and is a true rags to riches american story.And he still lives in malba.
You can build a bigger church without having it look like a mansion a mobster would build. Doesn't matter if the guy who donated all the money to build it is rich, money obviously can't buy taste or class.
Its a neo-classical style church, which is the style 90% of all orthodox churches are constructed.
But I guess you would prefer a Gothic style like some drunk would build ala St.Pats Cathedral.
With that last remark, I'm hiding under the sofa until the rocks and bottles stop flying. See ya.

It's funny, but most of the page that I linked to is not about that church. Yet you can't stop acting as though it is.
If you have money, the house of your dreams, life is good, and think that thing is beautiful, then why pick anonymous internet fights with people who don't? Sounds like you might be masking an inferiority complex. I suggest therapy.

That said, I think everyone is entitled to their own opinion and taste. Just because myself and others think this building is gaudy and awful looking does not mean that others do not like and appreciate it. To each their own, we just want to express our own opinions and have the right to do so, just as others have the right to display their own style and taste.

And by the way, his comments seem to be directed the physical appearance of the building. Because this particular building happens to be a Greek church doesn't mean that his comments have any kind of anti-Greek sentiment. It's hard to comment about anything nowadays without offending or upsetting someone because we are becoming a culture of overly sensitive over protective pussies who take offense at any perceived slight, whether real or not. Grow some thicker skin people.
