Representative Preston Brooks was Butler's South Carolina kinsman. If he had believed Sumner to be a gentleman, he might have challenged him to a duel. Instead, he chose a light cane of the type used to discipline unruly dogs. Shortly after the Senate had adjourned for the day, Brooks entered the old chamber, where he found Sumner busily attaching his postal frank to copies of his "Crime Against Kansas" speech.
The Caning of Senator Charles Sumner:

"Moving quickly, Brooks slammed his metal-topped cane onto the unsuspecting Sumner's head. As Brooks struck again and again, Sumner rose and lurched blindly about the chamber, futilely attempting to protect himself. After a very long minute, it ended.

"Bleeding profusely, Sumner was carried away. Brooks walked calmly out of the chamber without being detained by the stunned onlookers. Overnight, both men became heroes in their respective regions."

That's Sumner, not Shumer.

just wait till the senior citizens confront the two liberal democrats at their queens town hall meetings,as to why they voted for obamacare to cut $500,000,000,000.00 from medicare benefits.

this crime goes into affect in 2014.

Ackerman: "I have one question. Where is your decency?"

This from a guy involved in promoting prostitution via his interest in the Queens Tribune?

I'm sure that they're looking forward to this, so that they can refute the points like this made by the radical wingnuts.

But I've got a better idea. Instead of letting the "senior citizens" do it, why don't you go and say it to their faces, rather than saying it through this website? I'm sure that Weiner would love the chance to answer you directly.

how come most of the seats are empty?

I find it appalling that the health of so many rescue workers hangs in the balance by self-righteous arguments on both sides of the aisle. The reason that the rescue workers are now experiencing health difficulties is because the Federal government (EPA) claimed it was safe for these people to work at the site without appropriate protective clothing and equipment. Therefore, they are owed the funds necessary for them to take care of themselves. CASE CLOSED!!!

Perhaps there's another agenda that the media is not exposing. If our elected officials don't feel a sense of obligation to these brave men and women who are now suffering with cancer, breathing disorders, etc., then what will happen in a short period of time when the people involved in the Gulf oil disaster clean up also start showing signs of chronic and perhaps fatal illnesses? Shouldn't they be compensated as well since the dangers of working under those conditions was never fully addressed?

While these Bozos in Congress argue back and forth about funding and agendas, people are in need of the funds being requested and are being further victimized by a political system that is incapable of stepping up to the plate. This is insulting and another stain on the United States' foray into the 21st Century. Come November, I hope voters are savvy enough to know that our current elected officials need recycling. I'd rather take my chances on voting for someone new than allow the bullcrap to continue.

Ackerman: "I have one question. Where is your decency?"

Gary wouldn't know decency if it came up a bit him on the behind. He's a worthless piece of shit who has been in office way too long.

Get rid if this pig, vote him out of office in November.

yeah, right. that's why weiner was too scared to hold open, unscripted town hall meetings leading up to the vote for the healthcare debacle...where was his backbone then?

typical hack politician. throw hissy fits from behind a podium to make the 6 o'clock news, but hide from your constituents (all the 80 year old "radical wingnuts") when they want to question you about pending legislation.

it's laughable. all these creeps need to go in november

You don't think that Weiner is praying that someone like anon no. 3 shows up and starts to scream at him? He's gotten more attention from that screamfest in Congress than anything else that he's done in his career. He'll do more of that now.

Does anyone have any doubt that Weiner was the kid that after he got his butt whopped in a fight, would run home screaming "I'm gonna tell my Mommy on you!"

He is SOOOOOOOO annoying.

Please let it be known that you Sir, are the leading ahole in the State.

This is the first time I've ever heard Ackerman's voice! Too bad it comes as he "me-toos" Weiner. And it's true, Rep. Weiner is so full of it, his eyes are brown.

If you can find the audio, listen to Weiner on Hannity yesterday. He made a fool of himself refusing to explain why the Democrats would not take out extraneous language from the bill. It was embarrassing. The Congressman would rather have a tantrum than answer a question. This guy is lying sack of feces. He can't stand the light of day.

Kudos to Mr. Walsh for his historical observation.

Why are "OUR" elected officials allowed to add stipulations and other bullshit into proposed bills during regular sessions?

Because they can!

Throw these bums out!

The system realy needs to change, you can not allow for amendments on this stuff, vote on it for what it is. If you want to see something done for the "PEOPLE THAT VOTED YOU IN" then write it up and introduce it.
