JetBlue staying in Queens

From the NY Times:

JetBlue Airways, which has grown from a low-priced start-up to the seventh-biggest airline in America while calling itself “New York’s hometown airline,” said on Monday that it would keep its headquarters in the city.

The airline, which started flying 10 years ago, had been weighing a package of financial incentives to relocate to Orlando, Fla., in a move that would have cost the city more than 800 jobs and its only locally based commercial airline. But JetBlue executives told Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg and Gov. David A. Paterson on Monday morning that they would move to new quarters in Long Island City, Queens, according to a person who had been briefed on the decision.

New York City and New York State need to wake up to the fact that our city and state are not friendly to job creating businesses...unless of course it the real estate and finance industries which OWN our government!

I am impressed, surprised, and bewildered at the same time.

This is such good news.

This seems like a positive development, and yet the Krappy Krew responses here are "wake up to the fact that... [we] are not friendly to job creating," bewilderment, and of course georgethesolutreanidiot's sarcasm. Oh, and one commenter actually acknowledged that this may be good news.

I love this negative website!!!

Steve mentioned that JetBlue was looking to leave in the first place because we don't do enough to keep jobs here, plus we tax them to death. I doubt George was being sarcastic (more like witty) but I will defer to him.

So, anonymous, lighten up and stop hatin'.

From one anonymous to another, this is the most negative blog I know. Even when they get what they want they find a way to bitch about it but alas it is still a great source of local news, biased maybe, but news none the less.

Opinions are like assholes - everybody has one.

I really don't understand getting upset about people venting or sharing their opinions. I also don't understand the phrase "even when they get what they want". Who's "they"? Not everyone wants the same thing. And sometimes you think you want something and it turns out unlike how you expected it to.

You live in NYC. If you want everyone to think and act the same way, maybe China is more your thing.

I'm not sure why anyone would be surprised by my post:

1. I have a bachelors degree in economics and a masters degree in business (finance and management);

2. As an attorney my clients are small and medium-sized businesses who deal with this everyday; and

3. I was the ONLY candidate in the 2009 City Council race that spoke about small business and jobs:

Why the surprise?

Too bad JetBlue has gone from being a great airline to being just like all the rest. They used to be cheap and had a great frequent flyer program. Now they're just as expensive as everyone else, and their loyalty program is as atrocious as the rest.

You're really in love with yourself, aren't you Steve?

I am happy to hear the new! It is my (Jet Blue) favorite Airline for leisure travel - good value.

The City & State should build on this to attract new major business to our area. Jet Blue staying makes sense, since they build a flagship terminal at JFK and will remain close by 15 minute ride.

You can go ahead and say what you want about me but at least I'm not a coward....I never hide behind an "Anonymous" post!
