Beware of corporate promises

From Curbed:

After a lot of excited chatter around opening day, things aren't looking so great for East River Plaza: the megamall's Costco is laying off 160 of its 453 employees. And DNAinfo reports that some of those laid off are among the East Harlem residents the store agreed to hire in exchange for permission to make overnight truck deliveries.

Service sucks, but people still come anyway because they've been there before and are used to it and profits soar.

In Curbed comment above - is basically true of all these stores - regardless of service people come back. The number of folks let go are high and I guess it due in part to handle the opening crowds through the Christmas holidays. They probably have a good handle on the correct staffing numbers required year round - which is also seems very high. There were probably many folks whom were marginally productive among the group. Perhaps they should sign up for jobs at the Costco opening in Rego Park?
