From the NY Times:
The new complex, estimated to cost $750 million for the first phase, will sit on a city-owned, 30-acre lot in College Point, near Ulmer Street and 28th Avenue. Classrooms, offices and a gym, constructed to simulate the kinds of conditions officers face on the street, will be built first. Later, when the economy improves, a firing range, driver training area and a “tactical training village” will be built as police facilities scattered around the city will be consolidated at the Queens location.
Officials said the building would have a 3,000-car parking garage. The mayor, in a statement, said the location in northeast Queens “is also well-served by existing mass transportation options.”
But the nearest subway stop, the Main Street, Flushing, terminus of the No. 7 line, is more than a mile from the new academy, and is itself a block from a Long Island Rail Road stop. Both train stops are adjacent to city bus routes that serve the academy site.
In response to questions about the location, Edward Skyler, the deputy mayor for operations, said the city was sensitive to that point and noted that the Fire Department’s academy, on Randalls Island, is not served by the subway.

Waste of $$$$ Hiring less than 400 cops a year,do we need this? How about using some of the cash to restore the 5000 cops you cut through attrition?
Bloomberg needed something "Positive" after the proposed "Mall" in the Bronx was voted down by the City Council. Not that moving a bunch of Junior Police to College Point is considered "Positive" watch what happens there when "Training" begins.

Yes, you dumb fuck, but (a) there is no local traffic to screw with there and (b) Its on a fucking major highway.
Why not put the police academy on RI if you are so pleased with how the FD operates there????
There goes the neighborhood!
This would be a good reason to start building subways or elevated lines to the areas which were not populated in 1920 and are populated in 2009.
Avella did a fine job of stopping this.

?????????????????????????????????????????????????
With what money? On whose properties? Think before you speak.
Anonymous, thanks for the tip about thinking. Where did the money come from to build anything 100 years ago? It's called a capital construction bond issue.
What makes 1909 different from 2009 is that if money were raised to build a College Point subway extension, it would be actually be used for that purpose rather than for salaries, pensions, and perks and be exhausted long before trains were rolling.

Tell that to the commuters about to pay an increase in their fares that they can't afford. And do tell us on what land this fantastical new transportation system will occupy. Maybe you should use a photo of someone with a thinking cap. Any more genius comments?
Moving the academy sll the way out to college point is such a waste of money. Why not knock down Yankee stadium too then build a new one right next to where the old one was.....oh wait.
Bloomberg is an idiot.
