How NOT to publicize your borough

"Of course the folks at

Queens Economic Development Corporation
Queens Tourism Council
Queens Borough Hall
120-55 Queens Blvd, Room 309
Kew Gardens, NY 11424

could not find Rockaway with a map...

From their website.

Notice the map is of EAST ROCKAWAY in NASSAU County and they think LIC is a nearby 'hood."

That explains why a crippled city worker I met one time who lived in Astoria was assigned a territory in Rockaway.

Dummy. If you live in Astoria, the Bronx is closer than Rockaway. You assign someone who lives in Brooklyn or Eastern Queens the Rockaway beat.

Compared to the Bronx and Brooklyn tourism sites, the Queens tourism promotion site is a joke.

Books about our borough are also inadequate in presenting a good picture of our borough. Usually, I refer my customers to Forgotten-NY, if they wish to learn about Queens neighborhoods.

With the Bowne House out of commission, the Flushing trolley grounded, and the NYS Pavilion a towering ruin, our borough really needs to do more.

Oh, and Helen, how is that Redbird visitor center doing?

They also use poor grammar. It should be "its", not "it's".

Come to Flushang. We have plenty of venues that give massgees and can even eat chellys to while you're getting one!

Here is the Flushing version, complete with lame ass grammar:
---------------------------------
Flushing is home of LaGuardia Airport and the biggest Chinatown in the East coast. Major League Baseball team New York Mets' home Citi Field (former Shea) is located along the #7 train as well as U.S. Open's USTA Billie Jean National Tennis Center where the best tennis players from around the world come to compete every September.

Did you spot all of the boo boo's? This site should be out of sight...and mind!

How is it doing, you ask? For starters, every time I have passed by it over the last several months it doesn't even show the #7 symbol out front -- one of the Broadway IRT lines, I believe. Sheesh! Bunch of dummies!

Like in a kid's puzzle book -- What's Wrong With This Picture? There are too many to count. They should start over from scratch.

Who the heck edited/proofread/fact-checked the info? Some summer intern?

Re: who proofread this a summer intern?

Years ago I worked for the Test Census of Western Queens. I pointed out an error in one of the maps. They had Astoria Boulevard and Hoyt Avenue South, two of the largest avenues in Astoria, drawn together as a single street.

When I, who had lived within a few hundred feet of said avenues for several decades, pointed out the mistake, I was smugly told that this was correct because it was shown that way on the map!

In fact, I think I angered some of the people there for mentioning it. Sometimes the underlings cannot say anything to the big shots because they refuse to hear.
