A state board recently approved modifications to the second phase of an Astoria Energy Company power plant project. The ruling raises the power-producing capacity of the project from 1000 megawatts to 1240 megawatts.

I realize that nobody wants power plants in their backyard, but unfortunately they have to go somewhere. I used to put much of the lack of energy blame on ConEd, but I started thinking differently when I noticed how highrises and malls are popping up where parking lots used to be. Let's face it, on a lot of land that had little or no energy consumption may now be a significant consumer. And if the same amount of energy is available, then there's not as much to go around to everyone. Start blaming developers, and their supporters, buyers and tenants, in addition to ConEd.
But how can Bloomie's buddies make money if they don't develop every patch of vacant land in NYC? Kinda gives new meaning to the term "power to the people!!!" I guess the term "people" can mean different things to different people, eh?
I like how the accepted the bullshit from third stringers like mystery man Gianaris, exhibit A of how a nonentity can be put forth as a seat warmer by the clubhouse.
Its Con Ed's fault he exclaims, while the sacred area around DeMarco Park (where the bigwigs live) and Queens West escape the blackout cause they have new wiring, and the rest of western Queens fried with cable put in while Eisenhower was in the White House - and overdevelopment and illegal conversions not a sacred right of absentee landlords.
When are you taking one, and what would you do if one of our 4 shut down. Of course it is unfair to our neighborhood, and to the South Bronx that is also choking on the air from these plants, but it is outrageous to insult Astoria because we have been victimized. It is adding insult to injury.

It's the 21st century and people still use incandescent bulbs!!!!! conserve,use energy efficient appliances and we wouldn't need another plant.

It makes the neighorhood look bad. You know we are better than Williamsburg.

I think there are some in the Bronx.
I don't like being choked, but I think that people who benefit from our power plants have got some godD@mn nerve insulting us for having them.
If they didn't site them somewhere you would have a h@ll of a time getting by without lighting, refrigeration, or subway service.
