Maybe putting a garbage dump here isn't the best idea...


From Eyewitness News:

QUEENS (WABC) -- A plane that experienced an engine failure above Queens may have dropped plane parts on a College Point neighborhood.

American Airlines Flight 309, an MD 80, took off from LaGuardia Airport en route to O'Hare International Airport in Chicago at 8:18 a.m. this morning.

Some 20 minutes into the flight, the airplane lost engine number two.

The FAA described it as "uncontained engine failure," during which pieces of metal came out of the engine.

The flight was diverted to Kennedy Airport and landed, with one operating engine, without incident. None of the passengers were injured.

During the engine failure, metal shards may have fallen from the plane.

Some of the shards may have fallen onto a business in the College Point section of Queens. FAA investigators are going to the neighborhood a business metal shards.

Fall on your house, no kidding.
Its even WORSE now since the FAA gave these plains new low altitude holding circles to deal with the congestion.
(Notice the noise on the N Shore starting 6:30 AM since last summer)
They are right up there with the birds ideling at almost stall speed.

There is no way out for large 80+ ton jets to recover a bad failure at 400-800 feet unless your over water.

What I don't love is the fact that I seem to be in the flight path of almost every plane that takes off from LaGuardia. Last week a plane was so loud and low I thought it was 9/11 Part 2.

Before some asshole says, "The airport was there when you bought your house," allow me to mention that the flight patterns for the City's airports have changed at least 3 times that I can remember and planes were not always flying over people's houses.

I think "we" should improve aviation safety and I don't think "everyone" should move. Only those who are "CONVICNED" that a plane will hit their home.

Last Saturday, 60 Minutes cited both JFK and La Guardia for inadequately-short runways.

Because of the location of these airports in the middle of bays, building long-enough runways to meet Federal regulations is impossible. I have heard emergency crews barrel down 21st street on more than one occasion because of a crash at LaGuardia caused by its topography.

Let us hope that graft and stupidity don't join the existing list of short runways, over-taxed air-traffic controllers and obsolescence to further cost lives.

Just WATCH the FAA now say, “Safety was never compromised”, and that “It’s the safest period in aviation history”. FAA’s aero-publicist “spokespersons” like Jim Peters, Arlene Salac, Marcia Adams, Kathleen Bergen, and Laura Brown, are just a bunch of PAID LIARS.

So - on which birds are FAA and NTSB now going to blame THIS today nonsense occurring in College Point (Queens), New York [instead of airline/FAA cronyism and uninspected and under-inspected plane defects] –

And then there is that matter of 50 innocent people killed on February 12, 2009 by FAA and airline malfeasance, in Clarence Center, NY, near Buffalo. If you serve a FOIA request on FAA asking for all documents reflecting the names of all FAA officials and employees who attended ANY of the memorial services of the 50 victims, you will likely receive a “No Records Response” from the FAA’s FOIA unit - marking the first time the FAA FOIA unit ever answered anything truthfully.

WATCH now, as the FAA now enlists hack low-level FAA employees to anonymously blog-back to newspaper message-boards nationwide, in an effort to conceal the truth and cover-up the rank incompetence of their federal “agency”.

I was listening to the so-called news today and they said the engine on the plane did what it was supposed to do. Spit shrapnel out but not into the fuselage of the plane to protect the passengers. But it's ok to spit shrapnel out on to peoples houses instead! I can just picture it now. A nice family having a BBQ in the backyard and a piece of the jet engine lands on the grill and dad at the same time.

How about making sure the engine doesn't break up at all or have some sort of diaper that deploys around the engine when it does that so none of the pieces hurt anyone!!!

Some of those pieces actually melted into the roof of that building in College Point.
