Leave off the last S for "strapped"

Dial-a-Mattress Operating Corporation, which operates 1-800 Mattress, filed for bankruptcy on March 17. The company, which has its headquarters in Long Island City, was founded more than 30 years ago in Jamaica by Ecuadorian native Napoleon Barragan. On March 23, Dial-a-Mattress International Ltd. filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy, according to papers filed with the federal bankruptcy court.

1-800 Mattress employs more than 350 city residents and has more than 100 locations in New York, New Jersey, California, Connecticut and Maryland.

I wonder if they own those vans that I see riding around with 10 mattresses and box springs that they just plucked from the sidewalk garbage piles.

I saw the back room - internet operation of 1-800 a couple years ago in their warehouses - all Mexican illegals responding to in-bound spanish speakers. Most of the warehouse and helpers (laborers) we the same - kept a low profile.

The warehouse showrooms were a few desks and samples that had no prices - horse trading for those who did not know what the horses (mattresses) cost - buy on impluse.
