Close call in Whitestone

From the NY Times:

A Queens man said that he narrowly escaped becoming the second person in two weeks to be struck by an arrow when someone shot into his house on Tuesday night.

The man, Eric Weinberger, of 20th Road in Whitestone, said that about 9 p.m. he was taking the trash out when he heard a whizzing sound and then a loud noise. When he looked up, he said he saw a metal-tipped hunting arrow protruding from a wall near his front door.

“The arrow just zoomed right past me,” Mr. Weinberger said.

Old Matincock Chief Tackapousha said he would return to avenge the rape of his land (Then called East and West Egg's).

1650:
The Matinecocks were at the end of their rope with the Dutch.
Tackapousha supplied over 400 Matinecock warriors to go at it with the Dutch.

When New Netherland passed into English hands in 1664, the settlers stepped up their demands for the total eviction of the Matinecocks that remained.

The Dutch eventually blaimed some polititions wifes muder on the Matinecocks set out on a blitz killing most all the remaining Matinecocks.

Port Washington Libary
"Tales of Sint Sink"

Port Washington, Parts of Great Neck, Bayside, Whitestone are littered with 300 year old arrow heads.
They are made out of ths sharp black stone that look like coal. They are EVERYPLACE on Manhasset Isle by the marshland creek on Sintsink.

The Arrow and the Song
- Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

I shot an arrow into the air,
It fell to earth, I knew not where;
For, so swiftly it flew, the sight
Could not follow it in its flight.

I breathed a song into the air,
It fell to earth, I knew not where,
For who has sight so keen and strong
That it can follow the flight of song?

Long, long afterward, in an oak
I found the arrow, still unbroke;
And the song, from beginning to end,
I found again in the heart of a friend.
