Prayers for a brighter, better new year

As we resolve to meet the opportunities and challenges of a new year, we renew our resolution to learn from past failures and commit to the improvement of our neighborhoods, cities and State. Many of you have set goals for the coming year and we, as community advocates and leaders, will join you in ensuring that we succeed in getting what we have always fought for-a better quality of life and solutions to our community's problems.

We must continue to fight for our collective interests, protect our kids, working families and seniors, fight for better education, public safety, wages, jobs and health care, be more responsive to our friends in need, and be better stewards of our environment and neighborhoods.

With the many lows, such as the plummeting of the real estate markets, increased costs of living and prescription drugs, the high foreclosure rate due to mortgage failures, the highest unemployment rate in recent years, huge and painful financial bailouts for mismanaged industries and the collapse of our financial institutions due to predatory lending, it is hard not to acknowledge that 2008 was perhaps the most dreadful year for most of us. Families and small businesses in our local communities are hurting big time.

Added to that, we must now endure the pangs of despair in the face of a state budget crisis, and, despite our personal sacrifices, indecision as to which party will lead the State Senate after decades of dysfunction. When I stepped aside and endorsed and supported Councilman Joe Addabbo for the State Senate, now State Senator Addabbo, to avoid a divisive and expensive primary, I did so because I wanted our families to get the better life we are owed on account of our delivery of this linch pin seat to secure the majority to Democrats after decades in the wilderness. We hope that mandate is fulfilled.

With the pending increases in property taxes, MTA fares, tuition costs, utility costs, and the introduction of new taxes, such as music and obesity taxes, and budget cuts in health care, schools, police and the fire department, New Yorkers are urged to keep the faith and fight and pray for a brighter and better 2009.

We deserve better from our government, and demand more! Enough is enough!

Well Albert, you sound like a machine hack hitting every machine interest group out there.

No one is against seniors or kids (although the former gets more $ then their numbers and the latter less - a reflection of voting patterns more than anything else)

So what do you suggest we do?

Where is the outrage over the machine, the corrupt developers, the special interst groups, the honest graft?

How taxpayers finance new people while their own community fall apart?

An election process designed in so many different ways to marginalize the voter?

The media that asks easy questions of politicans and treats the disenting voter as a pariah?

Tiresome bromides just doesn't cut it anymore.

huh? just because Democrats are in does not guarentee this.

I think we need two parties, not a one party state.

Sounds like a timely wake up call to the government and new electeds to address these problems mentioned. Baldeo means that the honeymoon is over, we should put them to work for us, not for the special interests and crony developers. Let's keep the pressure on them.

LOL Albert Baldeo is a CROOK who was calling for Joe Addabbo’s head, calling him a reckless pervert only a couple of months before coming out to endorse him... He is a scammer, who steals from the community and people who can not defend themselves. He was promised something if he dropped out of the race. I hear that he is planning a run for the assembly seat vacated by convicted criminal Anthony Seminerio. He does not even live in the district but from what I hear he is renting an apartment in the district so when the time comes he can act like he is part of the district. Do not trust him he is a thief. Albert=Sneak+snake+scumbag!

The last posts obviously comes from the same demented anti-Baldeo lunatic. When we see such sick posts, one wonders why people like Baldeo, who does not need a job in politics, gets involved with all these slimy posters and players. Albert is an independent reformer, and when we vote for our officials based on race, rather on their qualities, then we deserve the representation we have been getting. And we are being unAmerican to the core.

Sounds like Sam Esposito, the ex-cop of CB 9 and tenant evictor. Wonder why he thinks he can get away with this sick behavior?
