St. Francis Prep turns 150, plans expansion

Well, well. The school that gave us Vince Lombardi, Joe Torre and Eric Gioia celebrated its 150th birthday this year. St. Francis Prep - originally of Brooklyn, but in Queens since the 1970s, is also planning an expansion.
There's a timeline and a video celebrating the anniversary and explaining future plans.

Go Terriers!

It doesn't look like they're making up for the parking they're removing, though. Parking over there is already pretty tough.

Vince Lombardi, Joe Torre, and Eric Joia..

I think either Torre and Lombardi have brighter political futures then the sell-out doorman. And that says a lot, since Lombardi is dead.

st francis prep should spend some money on the recent drug issues their school is having.

This is a nice school with great facilities but way too big - how much bigger can it get without losing effectiveness that is beginning to experience?

I'm all for expansion, as long as it does not encroach onto the adjacent public park space.

I don't know why they want to expand when the school doesn't have the good reputation it once had when I was a student there. I heard the kids that go there today are a bunch of degenerates who had no problem getting into the school. That was not the case years when they threw students away.

St. Francis was a good school up until around 1995 or so. I went back there a few years ago to say hi to some of my former teachers and was kind of shocked at the behaviors I saw. There must be less nuns there now because in the 1980s you would get detention just for not having your top shirt button closed.

Didn't Joe Torre and Vince Lombardi go to different St. Francis Prep's? I could have sworn that Torre went to school in Brooklyn.

Some of the people leaving comments are just being RIDICULOUS, if not LYING. I graduated from SFP in the 80s, and NOBODY went to detention for not having their top buttons buttoned, that is just STUPID. It always was a VERY good school, and still is. I smell comments from PUBLIC SCHOOL PEOPLE!

I love the fact that there is a whole art wing. Thats what I went to school at SFP for and its what I still do.

As far as the unbuttoned shirt, its always been happening. And to add ... I did like the rolled up skirt too.

You guys have no idea what you are talking about, prep is still a great school. and we need the extra room, we are the largest catholic high school in the country by number of students but they should also be adding better athletic facilities

i dont know how you people can sit there and say that prep was a terrible school i graduated from prep in 2007 had never missed a day of school or never got a detention to sit there and talk about drug problems and kids who couldnt get into anywhere else is a lie every highschool has a drug issue and it cant be avoided but to say prep has a big drug issue is a lie. Also the new space is needed with the size of the school and number of sports teams available it would be nice for students to have better places for classes and practice without being crowded into 1 room
