MTA: After hike, take a hike

Bus riders in Queens and Brooklyn will be walking farther and waiting longer under the MTA's plans to slash service for at least 22 weekday and overnight lines, The Post has learned.

On the chopping block for weekdays are the B23, B25, B37, B 39, B51, B75, Q26, Q56, Q74, Q75 and Q84. Overnight lines, including the B7, B14, B31, B45, B48, B57, B64, B65, B67, B77 and Q30, will be removed, a source said.

The cuts come as the MTA prepares its drastic plan to reduce service and raise fares in the face of a $1.3 billion budget deficit.

Cuts will also be made to dozens of buses in other boroughs, the source said. The 22 Queens and Brooklyn lines were targeted because ridership is low and because the routes are near other bus and subway lines.

I said it once and I'll say it again. In a few months, riders will look back and call this the good old days on the #7 Flushing line. Good luck with 5,500 new apartments at Willets Point, not to mention all of the new housing being erected all over downtown Flushing. Will this be the death blow to northern Queens? I'm just sayin'...

$7.50 for the express bus? I stopped riding the QM1 because I thought paying $5 for that piece of shit was too much.

Does the idea of a commuter strike sound good to you?

Unknown said...

LMAO...hes making life harder for anyone who doesn't live in Manhattan.

The commuter strike is a good idea. Everyone, ask Santa for a bike for Christmas. Carpool. Meet your neighbors. Buddy up. Screw the city and the MTA. Time for us working class to take matters into our own hands and organize. The time to start is yesterday. Let's vote out these pigs before they ruin the boroughs. We can do it together.

Notable is the fact that the Q45 (Which NO ONE but Damon Hemmerdinger wanted rerouted) and the Q54 (Likewise, I can't think of anyone in the community who asked that it be re-routed)which were both re-rerouted to service the Atlas Mall haven't been affected. Money talks and bullshit walks huh?

In Elmhurst, Chinese Vans run the bus routes. In fact, the vans run along the Q45. These vans are numbered and I believe the riders pay a dollar. My daughter rode one once because her friend is Chinese. That's the only way they will pick you up, if you are Chinese or if you are with someone who is Chinese. Maybe they will start picking everyone up and this way the riders will circumvent the MTA.

Not to worry....
C.M. John Liu of the transportation
committee is busy tugging at his "wand" and a solution will be "coming" soon!

I'll bet they wont touch the Manhattan routes in the tourist corridor!

Tourism seems to be NYC's only real money maker left after we gave up our real industries.

Then again, with the whole world in a financial slump, we may not be getting as many visitors as we have had in the past.

Never thought I'd be glad to be old.

But now I get 1/2 fare senior rates.

Let's all hitch a ride
on Mayor Mike's limo.

You know the one that drives him to the subway he's supposed to be riding to work at "Le Petite Trianon" (City Hall).....yeah....ha, ha!

"Tourism seems to be NYC's only real money maker left after we gave up our real industries."

Just wait till this recession really deepens in Q1 '09.

Tourism will drop like a rock.

That is the false promise of the "service sector" economy.

The 110-year-old good-government group, through a Freedom of Information Law request, obtained Council documents showing Council members spent a collective $927,507 in taxpayer funds from July 2001 to this past June on ads they placed in community newspapers and ad journals published by various organizations for fund-raising events and the like.

Figures in chart don't add up to $927,507 because some Council members left office some time during the period covered.

Dick Dadey, executive director of Citizens Union, said it's improper to use "taxpayer dollars for such purposes when there's no clear public benefit other than to raise their profile in front of an important constituency."

Council Speaker Christine Quinn (D-Manhattan) has pledged to close the door on self-serving ads with new legislation.

So how did your Council member fare? You can find out from the chart.

I swear, we are slowly regressing back into the 1970s and 1980s...Before you know it, subway/bus fares will be eating up half of our income, the crime will suddenly rise, the almighty subway grafitti will rise from the dead, and the subway cars will start coming apart at the seams (literally) all over again. In fact, being that I know a lot about the subway, I know that most of the trains on the lines that I have to take are between 35 to 50 years old, even though the maximum suggested and average service life nationwide is 35 years at most

Not only that, but the Mayor From Hell and our ape governor and his cuts to essential things have both made statements that seem to indicate that their stance is: "You're on your owm, guys. We're not bailing out the MTA, even though its a government agency." If Paterson keeps this up, he will NOT be re-elected in 2010. I have never seen us so screwed, in such deep shit. And I have been a regular subway rider since 1961. All these problems, this is exactly what triggered the all-out decay of the transit system in the 1970s

If we had unions we could have a general strike like they have in France or Italy or even the UK. It's the only thing we have that can stop them cold. If we with hold labor they don't make their money. It's the only way to stop them.

You idiots who have been anti union are getting what you deserve.

The Q45 is wonderful for the Seniors in North Maspeth and South Woodside who have no other way to get to get to the entrance of St. Johns Cemetery aside from a hearse.
We can also take advantage of the wonderful stores on Metro. Think beyond Atlas Mall.
