Baldeo exits senate race; endorses Addabbo

Democratic sources confirm Albert Baldeo, who came within some 800 votes of ousting veteran Republican Sen. Serphin Maltese in 2006, will throw his support to the Democratic establishment candidate, Councilman Joe Addabbo, this afternoon and stop campaigning.

Baldeo To End Campaign, Endorse Addabbbo

Technically speaking, Baldeo can't officially drop out of the race since it's too late to remove his name from the primary ballot.

The formal announcement will be made at 3 p.m. at Baldeo's law offices on Liberty Avenue. Also expected to attend are Addabbo, Senate Minority Leader Malcolm Smith, Rep. Greg Meeks and Queens Democratic Chairman Joe Crowley.

"One down. Serf's next. Go Joe."

You've got to be kidding! What kind of deal did Crowley cut with Baldeo? How much did this cost? And how much will it cost the "tweeded"?

"What kind of deal did Crowley cut with Baldeo?"

Do you mean like the same kind of deal that Serf repeatedly cut with the Manton & Crowley? The quid pro quo was Maltese never faced opposition from the Democrats in return the Republicans would not challenge Democratic judgeships etc.

Golly, smells like political spirit!

How about reality set in for Baldeo. No chance to beat Joe in a primary, could stay in with his self-created party line that he boasted of, spend his war chest that's mostly his own money and be the spoiler, and cost Dems the Senate. Oh yeah, he'd have a political future.

A sad day for local politics, as yet another local dynasty maintains its hold on power.

another stop the election before they occur

Sabbini got paid off

queens organization put their own guy into Lafayette seat after petitioning and knocked the weak challenger off in that district.

Only primary in the entire borough is Meng against Young in the 22AD

So much for democracy

Funny how Queens politicans always cut deals the last minute so the voters, as scripted as it is, is even made less meaningful.

Notice how the machine never conducts a voter registration drive>

Maybe someone should ask Crowley

Hey 'Honest Joe'
Why is this so?

Not true - you can't bargain with what you don't have.

Go Joe Addabbo! Put that mutt on his retirement track.

"...the party considered him problematic [at best]." I don't get it? What problem(s)? He came within 800 votes on his own to upsetting Maltese the last time. Seems like a Dem winner this time.

This "machine"-ing really needs to be looked into. Do you hear that NY Times, Daily News? How about you, the community "papers"? Shenkler?

What do you expect from Boss Crowley who got his job from Boss Manton in the same slick way?

Problematic is a nice way to say the guy is nuts. He couldn't win the primary and he knew it. Got a pass to bail out so the fight can go from the flea to the elephant. Mucho more importante fight. Go Joe.

Yea - you're right about that deal regarding the judges - the Dems gave up the Senate Majority so as not to lose any judgeships in a county where they can't lose anything....?????

Baldeo got almost half the vote in a district with an overwhelming majority, in an election where the top of the ticket (Spitzer)got 76%statewide-- lots higher in Queens.

Maltese's deal with Manton (when they were both County Chairs) wasn't for judgeships, get real.

The deal was to keep his seat and the 30CD in West Queens safe in exchange for no serious opposition for 19CD and 22AD in East Queens, where a Republican with a pulse and a brain could actually get elected.

Sabini didn't get paid off, silly. The demographics of his district and the DUIA were going to make for a doubtful and expensive primary against Monserrate (who needed to be brought into the fold.)

This frees up money for Joe and for Toby, who's going to need it.

Joe Addabbo has a $14,000 IRS tax lien on his house; it's no wonder he can't afford his attorney registration, and that's on $105K a year, how is he going to manage on $79K? Oh yea, he just tweed all you suckers!

And of course, no deals are ever made between Republicans in Queens to prevent primaries. Maybe the reason there are so very few Republican primaries in this borough is really because they have so few viable candidates. LOL

Or maybe the Dems won the battle for the minority vote way back in the 60s and 70s and then re-districted the Rep. party out of existence?

Or maybe the Republicans in the Senate carved themselves out a couple of districts to maximize what little Republican strength there is in Queens. Lots of minorities are Dems, yes indeedy, but so are lots of non-minorities. Serf found that out in 2006. Baldeo, an unknown, carried areas, with no real Democratic Party support to boot, that Serf did not expect to lose.

So Baldeo will get a judgeship out of this?

Anonymous said...

More likely some made up title he can bandy about to make himself sound important in Richmond Hill. Judgeships don't come easy or fast to people who trash talk and personally dis Reich and co like this midget moron has.

Any of you non-"Anonymous" ("Read Your Contract or you deserve to be screwed") HUMAN BEINGS that want to hear the TRUTH about the "Gang of 3" (including JP Morgan), who bribed crooked Senators to START the Federal Reserve - No more a Branch of Gov't. than Federal Express - get a copy of the "Freedom to Fascism" DVD...
