Bucket of Cement Falls onto Car in Brooklyn

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- A bucket of cement fell 20 stories off a building under contruction in Brooklyn and crushed the roof of a Department of Environmental Protection worker's car as he and a co-worker were about to enter the vehicle.

Quality Construction of Long Island City was issued a stop work order by the Department of Buildings after the incident on Court Street for violating numerous orders including failing to safeguard the public and property. The Department of Buildings said the company also violated a previous order that was issued in April for failing to safeguard a scaffold.

The two DEP workers, Omar Ishack and Pritim Masun, thought the car exploded when the bucket fell on the vehicle.

Officials say a bystander was struck by the shattered glass of the front window. The two DEP workers were not injured.
