Phony marriages for green cards

A former federal immigration employee was sentenced Wednesday to two and a half years in prison for his part in a phony green card scam that charged immigrants up to $16,000 each for marriages that would let them stay in the United States.

Prison sentence for brother in Queens green card scam

Philip Browne, a former district adjudication officer with the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services department, was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Lawrence M. McKenna in Manhattan.

Prosecutors said the conspiracy made more than $1 million for the scam's organizers.

The sentence followed guilty pleas in September by Browne and his sister, Beverly Mozer-Browne.

Prosecutors said the scheme resulted in the issuance of hundreds of green cards for customers of Mozer-Browne's Queens business between 2001 and 2006.

American citizens were paid to participate in phony marriages with the customers.

This has been a common practice for decades - those citizens that participated in this fraud should be stripped of their citizenship, prosecuted and serve lenghty jail sentences. These profiteers should be considered traitors.
