Woodhaven Boulevard megacrap

This aerial shot shows Woodhaven Boulevard between 60th Drive and 60th Road, nestled between LIRR tracks and an off-ramp from the LIE. The white buldings near the bottom of the screen were your typical 2-floor apartment above storefront buildings. (The Crapper's uncle lived in the one closest to the church in the 1950s.) North of these houses is a gas station, and behind them were 3 two-family houses built in the 1930s. The one closest to the church is owned by the congregation.
The white buildings were torn down several years ago, and in the process, under- mining of the church and possibly the gas station occurred.
The building that replaced them at 60-70 Woodhaven Blvd is still not finished, but plans submitted show that there will be dozens of units here and inadequate parking.

Meanwhile, the same developer is tearing down 2 of the three houses behind it. Plans submitted (and rejected by DOB) called for a 4-story building with 7 apartments, 3 levels of community facilities, and no parking what- soever.

Damn! Don't tread on our community!!!

All that glass should make for some nifty utility bills.

Again, filling the building up with day laborers you don't need parking. They just congregate on our streets, with full knowledge that our politicians gave them a 'pass' and get picked up by the contractors.

So who needs parking?

Replacing derelict buildings with a respectable building (not pretty, but not ugly) sounds good to me. You don't need a car in this area anyway. I'd like to see the gas station replaced with apartments as well.

Anyone who buys or rents in that building should not expect to keep a car and be able to park. It seems like an odd location for a residential building, but we'll see if there is demand. The building that was on that site really was shoddy.

These new buildings are dumps & deplete the community of character. I hope all the greedy developers go bankrupt someday!

What was on that site before was quite crappy, so I'll give this building a pass.
