This is a damn shame. After all that effort a decade ago to save Ft Totten, then to quietly fall into this neglect? Inexcusible.

Bayside Historical, Queens Civic Congress, local officials, community boards, no hiding, give an account of this now!

Are you kidding? Bayside Historical did diddly shit..... unless you want to count the lip service (with no action) Geraldine Spinella (their exec. dir.) gave for its preservation!

Then you had that "Bovine" pro overdevelopment Shulman who was perfectly content to let St. John's University or Mattone (a Borough Hall buddy) etc. develop the land!

A group headed by activist Joyce Sheppard forced Shulman to open up the meetings to the public that were previously held behind closed doors ......concerning the fate of Ft. Totten. Otherwise it would have been up for grabs to the winning developer.

Now we've got the status quo. At least the fort is here....in bad shape....but here! Better than seeing it razed!
