Elevator inspections are lax
From PIX11:
Subcontractors paid by New York City’s Department of Buildings are — in thousands of cases — not properly inspecting elevators, a report by the New York State Comptroller’s office alleges.
The City Department of Buildings is responsible for inspecting 71,000 elevators every year. To do this, an army of subcontractors are hired. In some cases lack of data suggests inspections mights not be happening at all.
A multi-year audit by the Comptroller said there is no data for thousands of inspections assigned to those sub-contractors. In 2016, more than 6,700 inspections may have been skipped. In 2015, 8,800 inspections were possibly ignored.

WOW, big surprise. Everything is the most shit city in the country is lax.
Make me wonder if the elevators at Trump Tower are really safe.
Complete nonsense. All of these elevators have maintenance contracts and are looked at monthly. The annual inspections have to be witnessed by two separate elevator companies adding unnecessary cost. I don’t believe this report for a second. This is in the private sector. Now what the city does with its own elevators? I have no idea.
And let me guess, all of those sub contractors are friends and family of the politicians, which means a lot of these jobs are no show
DOB lax? More like corrupt and downright crooked! The whole construction industry is mafia linked to DOB!
FUGHETTABOUTIT!
Third world population...third world elevators
