Cuomo signs legislation authorizing AirTrain
From CBS 2:
A new plan to build an AirTrain to LaGuardia Airport has been given the green light and should be ready within four years.
Gov. Andrew Cuomo signed the new measure approved last week by the New York State legislature advancing the AirTrain link project.
The Port Authority says a new AirTrain will link to the Long Island Rail Road and the subway system.
Air travelers could get from midtown Manhattan to the airport in 30 minutes.
The bill authoritizes the Port Authority to conduct an environmental impact study this summer for the $1.5 billion project. The Air Train will run from Willets Point in Queens, making two stops at the airport; East Station and Central Hall.
The plan is to have the Long Island Rail Road run express trains from both Penn Station and Grand Central to Willets Point, where there will be a seamless transfer.
Construction could begin in 2020 and is expected to be completed by 2022.

Hey I know let's pack more people onto the 7 train instead of extending the second avenue subway into Queens which second to last in the amount of subway service we get compared to other boroughs.
Hey I know let's pack people with huge suitcases onto the 7. At Rush Hour. Because that will work.
Hey I know let's build an air train that actually takes people further away from the city, going in the wrong direction, because that will save them a lot of time.
BOO HOO 11 its election season. Thats the only reason why he is doing this. He should have done this the first time he got elected...Lying bastard ...
Hey Cuomo, better start to fix it fast. When I see people (including pilots and stewardesses) dragging their bags along 94th and 102d streets to try to get into the already gridlocked airport, across car ramps and construction barriers, at 10am on a Monday morning, you know things have already gone to shit on your watch.
>where there will be a seamless transfer.
But no doubt one you have to pay through the nose for, and not a free transfer from LIRR or subway like there should be.
Great! We badly need it. How can we have a state of the art, new La Guardia airport without an air train? As for the parks extremists, who feel no park land should ever be touched, get over it.
"...state of the art, new La Guardia airport..."
Oxymoronic.
4 more years of traffic delays on the GCP and BQE...

Why not fix the broken parts of the transit system before building a,new train?
Oh, the Park Lovers don't like the idea? It takes space from FMCP and others? How about we take back 10 or 20 acres from the Tennis company that seems to have it now forever?
And they can build access for about 5% of the cost and half the time to the airport because a few dozen Vallonians do not want to be annoyed with an el in their front yard.
EXTEND THE DITMARS LINE!
Perhaps the new congresswoman will want to repay the Crowley supporters from Vallonia.
All the bums living along Meridian road are gonna be so PISSED !!!
If the air-tram is going to run along side the GCP they should restore and re-vamp the New York State Pavilion and adjacent parking lot as some kind of terminal with food, observation deck, sky-bar, bathrooms & lockers.
The AirTrain>NJ Transit>Penn Station thing works pretty well. If this is going to emulate that, then this will be a very good thing. What am I missing here?
Eh, not sure I really see the need for this. Any sensible person coming from Manhattan would still take the Q70 from Woodside and Jackson Heights (or M60 from Harlem for that matter) instead of heading all the way to Willets Point. Then again, many foreign tourists aren't exactly too bright when it comes to directions considering how many still wind up at Jamaica Center in their search for the JFK airtrain. The placement of this LGA Airtrain would benefit people in the immediate vicinity but that's just about it. It will also create more overcrowding on an already overcrowded 7 line.
Why would anyone trust an entrenched, establishment-rigged DemonRat from the private splendor of the Cuomo Dynasty (of epic fail), when has already (and repeatedly!) showed the overburdened, 'taxation WITHOUT representation' taxpayers' exactly how derelict this unresponsive tyrant is (and, always has been), as he continually (and continuously) lies, cheats and steals——easier than he F**KING breathes?

Yep, expand Ditmars to LGA and over Hell Gate. And extend the & to Kew Gardens.
That means it will be ready in 10 years.
