Supermarket site to become giant hotel
From Queens Gazette:
Developers last week released plans for development of a parcel at the northwest corner of Northern Boulevard and Steinway Street, where a six-story, 272-unit hotel will rise on a site formerly occupied by a Western Beef Supermarket.
Initial plans indicate that the development will include 18,200-square-feet of retail space on the ground floor, with a potential to expand the retail space to 30,000-square-feet.
Plans show that a car wash, spa and restaurant located next to the property on Northern Boulevard will be demolished to make way for the hotel and retail space.
Plans for the development include parking spaces for approximately 60 vehicles.
And how long will this remain a hotel before its inevitable conversion into you-know-what?

The most outrageously dumb place for a hotel! It's obviously going to be a shelter. Why do the city and developers keep lying to us?
I would wager that this will be an extended stay type of hotel.
You know, the ones that have KITCHENS...
Take away a food market (starve the locals) and give them a "hotel" in its place.
Hotel , my ass!
Soon to become a homeless shelter.
Who is your council member? Roast his feet until he delivers what you really want and need!
From a developer's point of view, this site represents underutilized land.
He can reap a fortune from it.
All single story buildings will be developed to the max! The land here is worth much more than the meager building that sits on it.
And what, pray tell, does the zoning code allow built here?
Bingo! You got it...and up the ass it's rammed!
Who needs a place to buy food in the 5 boroughs anymore? These businesses are as antiquated as hospitals.
This is actually not a bad spot for a budget hotel, but whom do they think they're kidding at this point about its real intended purpose?
"Supermarket site to become giant hotel"
That is a wrong headline. It should read:
"Supermarket site to become giant homeless shelter"
Should be very interesting once the hotels of Dutch Kills all become shelters - something we can all think the Dutch Kills Civic, George S, the Vallone clan, and of course, community board 1, the community board from hell.
Now, what will happen to the Northern Blvd corridor with the former Standard Building, or that big Hilton hotel in Queens Plaza. Now things get really fun. You have those hotels south of Queens Plaza like the Z.
Once they turn into shelters the next is New Harlem, the overbuilt railyard/brown field known as Hunters Point. You will be one or two more Sandys flooding the area with sewage and toxic chemicals that is in the soil, and a few parents in some of the building starting to compare the spike in illnesses with their kids (who knows, it might already be there but no one notices yet) and you have something that resembles an Olympic Village after the Olympics - large mostly empty towers.
Then the fun begins as they are filled with the underclass to serve the rich of Manhattan. By then, the developers would have been paid off and their politician stooges set out to pasture.
They lie to us, and get away with it, because you voters fear your council members.
You employ them. If you let them employ you , then you deserve it.
If you've got no time to become politically savvy, then watch your neighborhood get flushed down the toilet.
BAWOOSH! There went Flushing! So goes the rest of the borough!
"Why do the city and developers keep lying to us?" ... Because that's what they do. It's in their job description.
Smells like a shelter is a comin
Costasmides is getting a renovated Astoria Park....that's why he had to accept a homeless shelter to be built on Steinway. It's all a game at taxpayers expense .
Lagurdia airport will have vertical landing soon, even Joe Biden called it a shot hole
The Greeks are not going to let this happen,oh wait,never-mind
Astoria has no civics except mouthpieces for the pols masquerading as civics or dipshits that meet mate and move.
So this is what happens.

People better start fighting for their neighborhoods, like Maspeth does. If local citizens don't get involved, they better plan on moving out of state. DeBlasio is hell-bent on destroying the middle class. Preet Bhara needs to investigate the DOH immediately. Why can't the taxpayers vote to halt all construction of neighborhood hotels until the DOH solves the homeless problem? Taxpayers need their voices heard. The politicians are just not listening.
first it was the churches & synagogues then the hospitals, then the supermarkets
all closing. WHY?
People have been lulled into torpor, too damn polite, too damn naive.
The wealthier communities have none of those issues, but make the tactical mistake of not working with, or educating, areas outside of their districts - but then, those of us who tried to 'get the word out' in Queens know just how difficult and self-defeating most communities are.
As one activist once said, "they would rather take funding on stupid things as giving out cute tote bags from their councilman than fight him on quality of life issues".
One interesting thing to note on the difference between, say Manhattan, and Queens.
People in Manhattan think that participatory budgeting is a big sham, and those in Queens think its so cool to meet a half dozen times and get a million dollar dog run.
This is Van Bramer's not Costa's district, as if that would make any difference.
Shelters, shelters and more shelters.
What is needed is affordable housing!!!
Watch out they just might use schools next
