West Side Stadium may be saved

From NY1:

Tennis could be coming back to Forest Hills along with other sports and concerts under a new proposal for the historic West Side Stadium.

A spokesperson for the nonprofit Stadium Arts Alliance said Saturday that the group wants to redesign the crumbling arena and convert it into a space for tennis, concerts, art shows, and even minor league hockey.

The stadium hosted the U.S. Open from 1915 to 1977.

Last year, a private developer offered to buy the arena and convert it into luxury condominiums, but that deal was rejected.

Other proposals are being considered and a developer will be chosen next year.
