"The City seen from the Queensborough Bridge is the city seen for the first time." -F.Scott Fitzgerald, The Great Gatsby
One of the most overrated pieces of garbage that was ever penned. You call that great writing? And every Queens half-baked moron quotes from it. I read it in high school and my reaction was "so?"
"The city seen for the first time" better fits the view from the Kosciuszko Bridge or from a plane landing at LaGuardia.
How come Koch gets top billing over Giuliani or Dinkins?
Hey Van Bramer, our QUEENSBOROUGH Bridge is in your turf. You got the balls not to vote for this? Or you gonna kiss Bloomberg's ass too?
Hey aren't those asshole council people have to vote on it first? Bloomberg and Koch are real morons to spend the city's money on naming a bridge in these tough economical times. And to name a bridge after Koch, another loser mayor, is just right wrong....
Koch did nothing to build up New York's infrastructure! The political leadership that did create it, a century ago, had enough modesty or had enough political competition in a multi-party city to stop this kind of nonsense.
You know I like Koch today he is feisty and opinionated on his Bloomberg radio show and of cousrse long out of office today, but back then I hated him and his antics. So if there is a bridge that fit's Koch then maybe it is the 59th Street bridge, but I am fiercely against funding a 5M name change and there is no reason to change it's name. But however one reader wrote:

And I realized that this reader reminds me that yes, the bridge was completely deteriorating under the Koch administration because he did not care about the constituents that used it frequently - Queens - us!!! SO I agree, I am against this proposal for Koch is not worthy and in fact there should be a law banning the re-naming of bridges for the next 100 years and only if the $$ to do so came from the private sector and a vote by the public to approve it.

As I'm sure george knows, neither the Kosciuszko nor LaGuardia existed at the time of Gatsby's publication, nor did the Midtown Tunnel with its magnificent approach nor the Triborough (sorry, the Bobby K.) One's excoriating take on the book aside, Fitzgerald wasn't pulling a Jules Verne here and imagining future vistas.
Koch is the worst. Anyone who would want to be seen with him is a loser. He used this city as most mayor's do to line his pockets. No one is gonna call it the "koch" bridge anyway. It will always be the Queensboro. They would never re-name the Brooklyn bridge , they wouldn't dare we know that.

Why your neighborhood is full of Queens Crap

She'll lay for it!
Man up. Before you see the photo op of Queensboro President Helen Marshall cutting the ribbon that renames the bridge.
Give her an earful: 718 286-3000
While you're at it - Queensborough Bridge Councilman Van Bramer: 718 383-9566
Check out all the Queens Councilmembers at

Draw the line in the sand. This constant crapping on Queens has got to stop.
I loved Koch - they should rename Mahattan Kochville while they're at it too!
Babs, I think you need your mouth stuffed with Koch!
Koch? I thought I was looking at a cadaver! Oops.
ah george

Thank you. Indeed it is the Queensboro Bridge. The Queensborough Bridge is in British Columbia.

It will always be the Queensboro.
Above poster is correct- we will always call it what we called it : the Queensboro or the 59th Street bridge.
