NYPD layoffs mean less cops on street

From NY1:

The staff of the NYPD is poised to shrink, but the department won't be cutting police officers. Instead, it will reduce its civilian ranks by more than a thousand jobs. The proposed move is expected to save the city tens of millions of dollars but Councilman Peter Vallone says the cost to public safety will be too high.

"When they say civilian cuts people say thank God they're not cutting police officers. What that means is that cop now has to come off the street, sit behind a desk and pick up those phones," said Vallone.

Under the mayor's proposed budget, in the coming months, the NYPD would cut 1,154 civilian jobs. About 750 are open positions that the department just wouldn't fill. But 395 would be actual layoffs, people in administrative positions throughout the department, including at local precincts.

Pete's right this time.

Maybe the Community Council Presidents should volunteer and start doing some of the civilian jobs in the precincts. That way, it will give them an idea of what it is like to take orders, instead of running Queens North and some of the precincts from the comfort of their homes. Yes, this is a fact.

Sounds interesting, but don't keep us in suspense. Please elaborate on how they run the precincts from their homes....

Another potentially fatal cut from "Mike The Knife"!

Thanks Mayor Dumb-berg...
of all the places to slice NYC's budget...the NYPD!

Can't wait to see what he's got in mind for the FDNY!

Der Mayor is going to issue all those cops "Blackberrys" so they can make the street their offices too!

And that slob thinks he's going to get re-elected for a 3rd term?

How did this micro managing midget
manage to pull the wool over everyone's eyes for 2 terms?

But Bloombutt said he would be creating like 400,000 jobs in the booklet I received.

Which jobs was he talking about??

BLOOMBUTT = LIAR

Maybe some of these cops who retire at age 30 or 35 on 3/4 pension windfalls should have to actually work for their money in these civilian jobs instead. Giveaway union rules are killing this city and state.

Bloomberg and Kelly have done an amazing job with the continuing fall in crime even through this recession and budget crisis.

No Pete (or should we say daddy) is a smart pol.

Since Pete is leading the charge for massive population growth, and since the clubhouse is about the support Blumturd, his words are at odds with his actions.

The kind of housing he is proposing for his community will make a second Roosevelt Avenue in the borough.

The number of people per cop is about to take a big jump.

You mean that little gospel according to Mike..."Italian girl"?

BLOOMBERG IS NOTHING BUT A CHRONIC AND HABITUAL LIAR!

hey maybe if the city didn't do workshops for the illegals to educate them of their rights he would be able to put on more cops. stop wasting money on b.s. we need police and firemen. spending 80 million on a HS in maspeth which would be better spent on the police. shit we could use more cops at the 104 pct not less. JACK ASSES THAT RUN THIS CITY!

The above comment is the perfect example of the pot calling the kettle black. You need some grammar and punctuation skills yourself.
