That doesn't look like street trash...

When you see lots of household garbage in or near your local public trashcan, it means there are illegal apartments nearby. Landlords tell their illegal tenants to throw the trash in or near the street cans so as not to be questioned as to why their two-family house produces as much trash as an apartment building. (Not that the City would question this anyway...)

SO EXACTLY WHERE IS THIS PHOTO TAKEN? GRAND AVENUE IN MASPETH HAVE TENANTS FROM THE APARTMENTS OVER STORES DOING THE SAME THING. THE LANDLORD SHOULD PROVIDE PROPER GARBAGE CANS FOR THERE TENANTS. IT'S A TOTAL MESS ON GRAND AVENUE GARBAGE NIGHT. THEN YOU HAVE THE CATS RIPPING THROUGH THE BAGS, PRETTY NASTY.

Grand Avenue is a disgrace. walk up and down the main section from COnnellys to Dunkin Donuts there is litter and trash everywhere - the shop keepers are not made to sweep their sidewalks. In my opinion the worst offenders are the stores directly opposite St. Johns Cemetery. Shameful!!!!

St. John's Cemetery is by Atlas Park.

As economic and tourism czar Terri Osborne tells us, its vibrant! diverse! colorful!

Time for Terri to step down. She is doing a lousy job.

Maybe we will see a Columbia urban study about this problem.

Naw, its more fun to talk about forceing even more people into Queens.

wow, queens crapper not far off grand avenue at all, it's still maspeth. and can you imagine when they build another school in maspeth/elmhurst what the garbage is going to look like. the person who wrote: from the bar up to dunkin donuts is right, the garbage is over flowing and sanation does nothing to go after the people who are dumping their garbage. come over here when IS 73lets out the children and see how much they dump on the sidewalks. yeah we need more kids coming to our community. we need to clean up maspeth, go after the store owners, landlords, and stop anyone who tries to dump another school or garbage on us.

ok i'm going out on a limb here since i'm from this part of maspeth and my family has lived there since the '40s. it's becoming a dump from flushing avenue downwards, i dnot even live there any more. anyone who comments after me nastily is just a nutcase, and this is coming from someone who's somewhat liberal. =) have a good day all, hello ms. wilkson!

Just wait till the high school is built. You'll have 2,000 kids from the high school, 750 from P.S. 58 and 1600 from I.S.73 littering and throwing garbage all over Grand Avenue. Note, this is in a 5-block area. Maspeth residents better buy stock in hip boots, because you will be wading in garbage once this school is built. JOB ALERT - Calling all exterminators -- you will make a fortune on mice and rat extermination once this school is built.

PS58 has 975.

the school problem can be solved very easily. Locally zone phony tony como's house.

moreover there's not enough services for this area, PERIOD.

I've seen my neighbors do it. They walk out of their apt and throw a bag in the corner trash can and walk to the bus. They think its what they are suppose to do. The landlords don't tell them when trash day is or the proper way to put out trash. Tenants don't care because they don't get the ticket the landlord does. Living on Myrtle is worse, I get construction garbage dumped in front of my home. I've complained many times. You can even see the car and the guys that do it from my surveillance camera. It may not be a crystal clear picture but sanitation dept says there is nothing they can do unless they catch the people doing it. What BS!

this happens all over the city people dont want to pay for garbage pick ups so they put it next to the city's garbage pails

I know businesses do this, but a DOS inspector clued me in on the illegal apartment scenario.

And remember folks, when you talk to your local rep (in most cases) and your community board (in most cases) and City Planning (always) they will tell you the biggest problem in your community is .... how to plan for more development

(yea, stuff like this will be taken care of in a later study don't worry)

Maspeth mom says..

My bad, Crappy you are correct. I believe it is called All Faiths.

Mount Olivet. All Faiths is opposite Mount Olivet at Eliot Avenue. SO many cemeteries, so little space...
