Bayside pizzeria turns 50

From the Times Ledger:

The three cousins who own Bayside’s VIPizza said their eatery is not only the last pizzeria in the borough to strictly serve pizza and soda, but also the only one that delivers pies to customers who live thousands of miles away.

The pizzeria, at 43−02 Bell Blvd. in Bayside, is celebrating its 50th anniversary this spring. The restaurant first opened as Bell Pizza at a site two doors down on Bell Boulevard in 1959, changed hands twice, became Ed’s Pizza and in 1995 moved to its current locale as VIPizza.

At least one person operating the pizzeria at any given time has been related to one of the previous owners, said Mike Guercio, one of the current co−owners. Now Guercio and his two cousins, Luigi Dammassa and Peter Agorious, run the operation, using the same recipes as when the eatery first opened.

Been there a couple of times. Mediocre at best, not much in regards to customer service either. Forgettable experience.

Sorry . . . but I have to disagree. Now living in Orange County NY, I've been enjoying VI sicilian since 1974, when I worked at NYTel across the street. Still, every time I get to Bayside, I still stop there to bring a pie home. Their sicilian is the best I've had.

I have to agree with Anonymous. Nothing special about this pizzeria. The BEST pizza is Graziella's Pizzeria on Francis Lewis Blvd. in Bayside. Won't buy pizza anywhere else.

You have never been there Bob. You have never been anywhere but down the block to buy comic books or over to Pinkys house to jerk each other off.

And Bob goes to the shoe place in Bayside also. What a loser. What a pathetic life he made for himself. Sitting on a blog making up fantasy interactions with the world. Fantasy involvement in things (remember the posts he put up about the mafia and how it was in the "old days" in the neighborhood. As if Comic Book Bob played with the toughies in the neighborhood growing up). He is still the ugly kid the girls didn't like in school. Thats where all the anger comes from. Trying to be the ringleader amongst local fools, trying to get back at the girls. Trying to be the cool guy. But still the guy he was in JH, not actually running for office and being someone, just the anonymous blogger. The anonymous guy who sent notes around calling the "bad girls" names. Pushing 60 years of age and having wasted his entire life. How much he must hate himself when he loooks in the mirror.

Wow anonymous sounds like you are the one with issues. You need to get some meds or psych help...

Their Sicilian is the best. Besides that its not that great of a spot. The article is wrong tho as there are other pizzerias that serve strictly pizza and soda in the borough, such as Amore in Flushing.

Ah, it wasn't Bob who went to Apollo shoes - that was me. I go to VIPizza too. The pizza has gone down hill in the last couple of years IMHO

Just wanted to say something nice these folks...

When we had the big blackout a few years back, I went to Northern Blvd to pick up my wife as she returned home from a 4 hour return adventure from work...

It was late and we had no dinner... VIP was open, had their cars on the sidewalk pointing their lights into the shop and made us a wonderful pizza..

No double charge, no hustle in the darkness... Just nice folks helping out their neighbors with a great pie..

Thanks VIP!

The best spicy chicken slice you ever had. You will crave it in the middle of the night once you try it.

Ok the Spicy Chicken slices are excellent- Now I want one

They appear to be Albanian not Italien. Spicy chicken is not Italien pizza.

It's only their Sicilian that is tops and that has it has been for 50 years.
